While this book is somewhat entertaining to flip through, the new style of generic artwork and animation ruins the experience. Gone are the old type illustrations and artwork of these characters from the original artists of the 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's. They have all been replaced by crappy updated "ultimate" style animations and CHEESY artwork that really is sub-standard in appearance. Most of these characters drawings are very simplistic in their quality and presentation. It is very difficult for old Marvel fans like me to tolerate these low quality renditions. Just not acceptable. Skip it unless you must have it.

It is an interesting book, explaining how the Oxford English Dictionary was put together by volunteers supplying definitions and quotes for every word in the English language. In the back of the book is a call for additional volunteers to work on keeping the dictionary current! The man who made the largest number of contributions was Captain William Chester Minor, late of the United States Army, whose residence at the time he was making contributions was Broadmoor Asylum for the criminally Insane, Crowthorne, Berkshire. He was committed to Broadmoor for the murder of George Merrett in February 1872. Emma complete illustrated novel by Jane Austen Austen's witty exploration of social relationships in "Emma" is both humorous and insightful. An enjoyable read for everyone.

If this book was in any way meant to be a subliminal commercial for the Oxford English Dictionary (All Hail Its August Name!) it worked, because after reading this I forked over megabucks for my own set: and during a recession, too, go figger. This story of one man's obsessive love of dictionaries and his veritable marriage to the OED brought back enjoyable memories of A.J. Jacobs' The Know It All, in which the similarly driven A.J. spent a year reading the Encyclopedia Britannica. The comparisons between Jacobs and Ammon Shea largely end there but in each case there was an excitement and love of challenge and books that drove both men to do what they did, and that enthusiasm is catching (as my much-reduced bank account shows, oy vey). This James Bond Encyclopedia is a must have book. It is very comprehensive and profusely illustrated with photographs. The visual layout is very attractive enhancing this exquisite volume. I spent many hours going through it. It is a very enjoyable James Bond film companion. Being a long time Bond fan I highly recommend this one.

I had read positive reviews of World to Come, and planned to read it. The premise -- guy steals a Chagall he is convinced belongs to his family -- was intriguing and piqued my interest. Along the way, I came across "In the Image" (Horn's previous novel) and decided to read that first, being a linear kind of guy. Wasn't crazy about the book, but decided to give Horn a second chance and bought World. I have to admit I was enthusiastically recommending the novel to friends and family by the time I was three quarters of the way through the book. Horn writes beautifully and the plot made it hard to put the book down despite the back and forth leaps between Chagall's time and Ben's. Actually, I thought that part worked well.
