What a letdown! Listen, if you think your kids are "hedonistic little suckers," then maybe this book is right for you. There is very little content; it's the informational equivalent of junk food from McDonalds. An example of the kind of advice you'll get: if you ask your child to take out the trash and they forget, then let them guess why you won't take them to the store sometime in the future. The Guess Why I'm Not Happy Technique has never worked with my dear husband; why would anyone expect it to work with a child? I wouldn't call that Assertive Parenting, would you? I'd call that Passive-Agressive parenting, and who needs a book for that?

This book was one of the best books we got as expectant first time parents. A lot of the information in here you cannot find in the other books for just women. Half of the pregnancy is all about the father too (which women can sometimes forget in the mess of baby making) and this book can offer a lot of insight for women who are confused about their man's behavior. It offers insights to the way men and women differ in the whole pregnancy process. I highly recommend this book for women who are interested in having their partners involved in the process.

This was a very touching book. I could not put it down what so ever! I read it on my way to Wisconsin Dells for a vacation back in May. I cried because it is heartfelt and God forbid a child ever go through that!

I recommend this book. Very down to earth, truthful, compelling. I bought this book at a fraction of the cost.

Too many people know Mystery's Method, so it is becoming overused. Every girl has now been asked the same dumb questions by guys "Did you see that fight outside?" etc. I just wish there was some new material.

Our first is due in 3 months(our little Chloe) and I heard about the book through Dave Ramsey, I have to say it's been worthwhile. You might not agree with every chapter or suggestion but the most important thought is that we Father's get involved and be the Dad our girls need on many levels. Some of the info might scare some people but I think it's trying to wake up us newer Dad's to the important roles we play in her life and to take the reins and not opt out when it gets difficult or about something we're uncomfortable with. Good book and I will not be opting out, our daughters deserve the best.

loved this book. my son is also bi-racial. i was born in 1956 and could really relate and re-read the book with my son. he never experienced most of the things in the book so it was an incredible sharing and bonding experience for us and it opened a whole new dialogue with his dad who's family originated in north carolina. great read for all parents and children. truly enlightening

My family is getting ready to adopt a special needs child and they were told to purchase this book along with the Martian Child movie. We purchased both of these items and they are very good to help in the thought processes behind a special needs child. The book shows a completely different way in bringing up children versus the old fashioned way. We have not finished the book yet but we are darn sure it is going to help.

This was another wonderful, tearful book from Tim Russert. How much we will miss him... I just wish he had written a book about his mother.
