I loved this adventure and came to care about the characters throughout the story. Of course, as in any Bond type story, the women are all beautiful amazons and the men are handsome hercules. I loved the out of this world technology and the "keep you on the edge of your seat" battles. I found myself finding it difficult to put the book down.

I will definitely read this author again.

First, let me comment on the Audio.. It plain stinks. The reader uses some European stereotyped Jewish accent mixed with Russion for the Israeli characters...It makes them all sound evil.. It sounds ABSOLUTELY nothing like an Israeli accent. It changes the tone of the book to hear Israeli's talking like evil Russians with a Polish accent.. just horrible. And he did zero research. He said the word "Chuppah" (a wedding canopy) pronouncing the "ch" like the ch in "chair" instead of a "clear your throat" "H" sound. Anyone Jewish (and lots of Silva's readers certainly will be Jewish, will just laugh at this... it cheapens the writing. I am usually amazed at how good the readers of these novels are...but this one is terrible.

I liked the book itself but some of it just strains ... Read More

4.Last Good Kiss by: Crumley

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Last Good Kiss
I just finished John Gierach's marvelous book, "Fool's Paradise". He devotes one chapter to books he brings with him when going on a long-distance fishing trip---books that can help fill the time when stuck in the airport or at a motel when the weather precludes going outside. He mentioned reading books by James Crumley---an author I had not previously known. So, I grabbed this book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The book has that hard-boiled, Raymmond Chandler tenor about it---alot of cursing and "tough talk", but the story was surprisingly (to me) and interestingly involved. It was a good read that kept me turning the pages at a rapid rate. I'll certainly pick up some more of Crumley's stuff. One note: Until I bought the book, I didn't realize that it was written in the late 70's, and you pick ... Read More

I have always wanted to be spy or a spook in the spying game vernacular. After reading John Le Carre's first novel, 'A Call For The Dead' and meeting George Smiley, I imagined myself in a trench coat hiding in corners. I then went on to read every book written by John Le Carre. The best spy novel ever written, has John LeCarre's stamp, 'The Spy Who Came In From The Cold' and made into one of the very best films. Unfortunately, the Cold War ended and so did the romance of the spies. But, now, John Le Carre has given us an inside look at modern day spies with a novel about some of the political concerns of our time. A renaissance of the spy?

Germany has guilt, such guilt about 9/11. They failed to flush out Mohammed Atta and his colleagues who brought down the Twin Towers and the parts of the ... Read More

6.Robert Ludlum's (TM) The Bourne Sanction by: Eric Van Lustbader

I've read all of the Bourne series and while the Identity is by far and away the best, I would say this is the weaker of the Van Lustbader series, but not as bad as the Ultimatum. At least Bourne here was tough. I think that the author could have done a better job of making the characters multidimensional. The end felt rushed and the fight scenes were almost comical. For the next book I'd like to see more of the realism that Ludlum put in his books. I'd say this one is an average read.

7.Angels and Demons by: Dan Brown

The book does a good job of keeping you interested in what will happen next, but... The character development is awful and unrealistic. The writing is simple and inartful. A fun time, but overall too simplistic and reaching.

8.In the Woods by: Tana French

I read a lot of mysteries and psychological thrillers. I picked up this book on a random shopping trip because it looked like it might fit the bill. It did not. About half of the way through the book I knew who the murderer was without having to read on. I did read on in case there was an interesting twist. There was not, there was only a weak ending which left me feeling wholly unsatisfied. I was expecting a rich Irish mystery, but instead found myself reading a generic story which could have been set anywhere. I'm not even sure why Ireland was used because it felt more like a silly American cop show. I would not recommend this book to others who are looking for a great mystery. Read Val McDermid or Ruth Rendell if you want a satisfying murder tale. Skip this book.

While this was an enjoyable read that is well written, I found it to be so typical of so many other serial killer / slasher stories. There wasn't anything that really set this above any other similar story.

10.Tree of Smoke: A Novel by: Denis Johnson

The book has some patches of good writing, and it does suck the reader in. However, one soon realizes that one is trapped in a swamp of shallow characters and murky events. The portrayal of the war seems to owe more to repeated watching of Apocalypse Now than any direct or original insights. The reality is much more weird and stunning than fiction, so you're better off reading histories and biographies.
