I loved how detailed and orginal the story was. It's like T.H. White instead of trying to tell the complete story of King Arthur, takes little snippets of the parts he thought were particularly interesting or wonderful and makes them beautiful and rich with life and meaning. His words are full of love and light. The Once and Future King

Probably Cornwell's finest work - the Arthurian legend brought to life as it was, or as it would have been, had it been true. Set in Britain circa 490AD Cornwell paints a magnificent picture of a mediavel fantasy transplaced into the gritty reality of the Dark Ages. There is no classic Camelot and knights of the round table, but a grittier tale using a familiar host of characters that makes for an absolutely gripping read. I challenge any one to read this book and not feel compelled to purchase and read the whole trilogy.

Second in the Warlord Chronicles, his Arthurian trilogy, told from the viewpoint of Derfel Cadarn, a Saxon slave boy who has now become one of Arthur's greatest warriors. A heady blend of historical fiction and fantasy with the retelling of the Arthurian legend in a very plausible way, without a whole lot of romantic nonsense--there are love stories within the story, but it's primarily a tale of war, greed, and hunger for power, which makes it (in my opinion) a much more likely scenario than the fairy tale type Arthur stories.

I particularly enjoyed Cornwell's treatment of Arthur's "Round Table." LOL It's impossible to begin to talk about this book very much without giving away too much. I can only advise anyone who enjoys Arthurian legends to check this series out--it truly is excellent and ... Read More

My husband and I have decidedly different tastes in books. He reads history and historical fiction. I read mostly fantasy and am an Arthur legend freak. He had read virtually all of Bernard Cornwell's Sharpes books and quite a lot of Cornwell's other historical fiction when he picked up my copies of The Arthur Books and proceeded to read all three.
I loved the Arthur trilogy and have read a lot of the Shapes books. Cornwell's books are good reads. Period.

A truly exciting series. Incredibly well written. In the backdrop of the story, it provides one with an eye-opening view of a period in history known by most of us only through the eyes of Hollywood. Not only is this a remarkable concept of an old legend filled with the years of Mr. Whyte's labor in researching life during that era, but told ... Read More

Book Five of The Pendragon Cycle, which fumbles to a close amidst a mumbo-jumbo of mysterious fogs, forest, and phantom fighters who attack the good guys (Arthur and Company) as they attempt to recover the stolen Grail. The Grail is the hero of the day, but with the wrap-up of the series in just a couple of pages, is curiously ignored.

I think it comes back with them to the home of the lost Atlanteans, where the story would then dovetail into the end of the third book, where Arthur is wounded in combat and "goes away", while the Grail is safely hidden on the Island of Avalon with the Fisher King of Atlantis.

Yeah, it goes like that. In all, the series started strong in the first two books, and raised my hope that it my continue to crescendo to a great finale. It didn't. Best bet: Begin at the beginning (Taliesin: ... Read More

Jack Whyte was born and raised in Scotland, but has lived in Canada for the last forty odd years. He is the author of the Camulod series of books and has just had published the first in a trilogy about probably the most famous Order of knights, ever to come through the pages of history, the Knights Templar.

This is the eighth volume in the continuation of the Camulod Chronicles a series of novels about the Arthurian legends. But anyone expecting the conventional, or Hollywood slant on the legend of Arthur, i.e. knights riding around on destriers in full body armour, something invented several hundred years after Arthur had gone to his grave, if he ever existed at all, will be in for a sharp shock.

The books are set in the 5th century AD a much more likely time for Arthur to have existed, a time when Britain, although ... Read More
