I waited to read this book over a year, but finally gave into curiousity. Should have saved my time and money. This book was really disappointing. I am a hardcore fan of the LB series...I started reading the books in 2005 and was literally starting the next book in the series every other day...when the prequels came out I read them, too, and was a little saddened that they weren't as great as the other books, but they weren't "too" bad. This book, however, was just so unrealistic that it made me wonder why it was written. A 3 year-period (roughly) takes 300 pages to complete, yet it was so obvious from the beginning that Qasim was a fake that I wonder why it took so long to make that point...hmmmm, can anybody say "stretch" the story line? I'd like to say that my title is more than a little harsh, but frankly I can't. I skimmed through probably 2/3rds of this book searching for when the droning sermons would end. Quite frankly, I don't think Jesus is that boring, nor that cruel to make his children suffer through a holier than though monotone sermon that covers not one but up to six pages at a time. Nor do I think, as it's been pointed out from other reviewers, that He would get such manical pleasure in incinerating millions of people and as was pointed out from another, so many innocent horses. One thing that really irritated me about this book is how all of sudden Nicolae/Lucifer is turned into the biggest bafoon in all of creation. Not quite as good as the previous books in the series. Wrapping up lots of fictional story lines, less Biblical prophesy, and the book ends before the climactic battle and Christ's return.

Where I think the name of the Force is hokey and overblown the book in and of itself isn't bad. The characters are good and compelling the subject interesting and frightening. Esp. being a Christian, it's scarey that this could happen in my future. Obviously, it's a work of fiction, so it's not to be taken literally but as an entertainment. However, it does give an idea how people can be taken in and controlled by evil. As for some of the characters the only one, at this point that aggrevates me is Chloe Steele. Arrogant, feministic, bitchy, and just a down right brat. Her attitude was pretty much ok in the first book...but they really blossomed her into an annoying person in this one. Co-author Jerry B. Jenkins. #10 in the Left Behind series. This rating applies to #1-#9 as well. I didn't read this entry in the series for several months after it came out, so I had been away from it for awhile. These books do such a good job of telling what will happen based on Biblical passages, and what might plausibly happen, as Lahaye and Jenkins have surmised or inferred from the Bible. Most striking is the way that God will directly intervene in human events and those who believe will commune directly with God's power, while those who do not believe will curse God and search for other causes.

The Rapture and biblical prophecy are fascinating subjects that could be the basis for a roller coaster modern story. Unfortunately the authors dilute the potential with long, boring, inconsequential text. I trudged through the first 2 books, then finally threw in the towel on the 3rd after reading a chapter describing a traffic jam! The best of this series could be distilled to just a few books but, keeping with the theme, it's already too late...

This is one of the later books in the Left Behind Series. Similar to all the others. Fortunately is a story in itself, so if you don't get the whole series you can still get a good read.

Saturday, November 22, 2008 What I'm reading Have you heard of the Left Behind series? Silly question. Of course you have. You're reading about it right now. I've finally decided I'd read it and "kindled" the book. Mistake. I probably should have taken it out of the library. Think about this. There are twelve-thirteen? books in the series. Each one costs between 5 and 10 dollar a piece. Figuring the usual $10 kindle price, if i were to buy twelve of these, it would (will) run me $120 For a book. That isn't a masterpiece or a piece of antiquity. So what's the draw for people to lay aside their hard-earned and possibly disappearing cash? It's not that well written.
