so many good reviews- I dont know, this book was a no-brainer. I mean body language for dogs is simular to adults sort of. I was really surprised this book was like a brochure very thin -if it had more solutions than explainations Id found it helpful..maybe I was looking for a solutions based book instead and not a book about the language of dogs- I barked up the wrong tree on this one... wish I could say it was a good purchase but for me - it wasnt

This book is a real-life account of growing up in a large family with limited financial means and often rocky family dynamics. The matriarch of this clan is the prizewinner of the title. While raising 10 kids and keeping the wolf from the door, she hits upon a way to generate income by entering any/every contest that comes along. She frequently does win, of course, very often in the nick of time. The book was written by a daughter, who ably recounts the challenges and rewards of growing up in a family that lives so close to the edge. Her mother is a gritty, funny, honest-to-god domestic goddess. She is a prize-winner in so many ways--it makes this book uplifting without being sappy--good read.

In the mid-90's, Marvel decided to conclude their much maligned Onslaught storyline with the deaths of many of their top tier heroes. The Fantastic Four, Captain America, Iron Man, and the rest of the Avengers, all bought the big one as their respective titles were canned and re-launched with a new direction (allegedly) as Marvel teamed up with Wildstorm (before they became part of DC) to produce some new takes on old stories. Heroes Reborn: Iron Man finds our favorite alcoholic, shell-headed super hero reimagined (kind of) as he takes on the usual suspects in his rogue gallery. The only thing is, this book is so wildly inconsistent in terms of it's story and art (Jim Lee and Ed Benes can't save everything) that at times the whole shebang just seems incoherent. This is a very nice book about Francis Scott Key and the Star Spangled Banner. It provides good detail and interesting information. My ESOL kids can deal very well with these books while learning to read Englisha and learn American History. Recommended.

Love this book! Contains some great insights into the early careers of some of my favorite artists. There should be more books like this!

This is a wonderful, entertaining journey into the past 20 years of animation and visual effects. It's definitely a thrill to see the progress of the art from--from 1987 to 2007 and see how far this industry has changed and improved thanks to visionaries like John Lasseter, Craig McCracken and Brad Bird. It was fun to see articles by people like Lasseter, McCracken and Nancy Cartwright (who is Bart on the Simpsons) as well as toon historians like Leonard Maltin and John Canemaker and indie animator Bill Plympton. I still hang on to my first issue of this important magazine and this hardcover art book is the perfect gift for toon fans--they've included every cover of the magazine (so you have excellent 4-color reproductions of the magazine cover with iconic characters like Roger Rabbit, The Simpsons, ...
