Instead of writing a detailed review I will just comment that, in brief, I found this book feel kind of like reading computer code. I don't mind computer code but I much prefer math books that preserve a traditional flavor. I recommend the introduction to linear algebra by Georgie Shilov. From there you can branch comfortably to the computational or the mathematical end of things depending on your interests and goals.

I have been using Access and VBA for a few years, without any formal training in relational database or programming. In this concise book, Steven Roman managed to give a strong foundation in the theory of relational databases, VBA and DAO.

Armed with this knowledge, I now have the confidence to dig deeper in these three topics and study more advanced material.

One downside though: I found the last part of the book on ADO quite confusing. Steven Roman prefers DAO to ADO and it shows.

I nevertheless give the book 5 stars, as the first three parts of the book are stellar.

This is a great collector item for Roman Dirge fans. Not as funny as Lenore, but definitely good fun to read to your in-laws on Christmas to watch their reaction.

This book is a really good reference. It has made me much more efficient. It has good information of the new features of VB 2005. It has several chapters on the basics of VB as well as advanced features such as generics and attributes. I would definitely recommend buying it if you are already familiar with VB and want a good reference book for VB 2005. I try not to program without it within arms reach

A thoughtfully put together text covering many oft asked questions re breeding theory. Very readable and easy to understand for those with an interest and some background in the breeding industry. Sensible interpretation of a subject that can easily be smothered and complicated by folk-lore, tradition and a non-scientific approach.

I found it easy to extrapolate to my particular interests, which involves breeding horses for other performance disciplines. I would recommend it to anyone interested in breeding horses, particularly those with an interest/background in TB pedigrees.

I found the book apropriate for those who plan to start studying the necesary fundamentals of math for finance. Basic themes in finance, i.e. the CAPM model and portfolio optmization are presented in a very clear way to stablish the fundamentals. Those interested in options valuation will find help understanding the core concepts underlying the theoeretical models, something hard to find in papers. I'm satisfied with the book. Some power point presentations would be very useful for teachers.

Finding things in this little book is surprisingly difficult. The organization is strange and there is no index. If your patient enough, you can eventually find what you need. This book is supposed to save time, but it frustrates.

I would beware of ordering this through Amazon. I have had to return this book after several attempts of getting the order right. They keep sending me the book without the CD-Rom.. yet the cover and their site states one is included.

This book is weird. Who is it written for? At the back of the book there is a little appendix telling you all about Fortran, C++, and other things which have nothing to do with the book's topic.

The title is "writing word macros" but you can find much better information about that on the internet than in this book.

For some bizarre reason the author prints out pages upon pages of lists of all the properties and methods of objects - just trying to fill out space?

The oddest thing about the book is that the cover keeps curling up. Also the printing quality in the copy I got is diabolical - it looks like it was printed on a cheap laser printer with a shortage of toner.

Save your money.
