Great read. I am by no means an expert on literature but I enjoyed this book. It is a bit hard to see the robin hood story at times but a great read none the less. Definitely worth purchasing.

Book one of The Pendragon Cycle, in which the tale is told of the "twilight of Atlantis--and of the brilliant dawning of the Arthurian Era!" Lawhead sometimes writes down to the level of romantic pseudo-historical fiction, but sometimes rises to higher levels along the lines of Tolkien, threading into the "retelling" of the Arthurian legend an explicitly Christian message.

This is the first book I read following my ear surgery to restore my hearing, and while sometimes overwrought, it did flow quickly and help the time pass.

Book two in the series: Merlin (The Pendragon Cycle , Book 2)

Book two of The Pendragon Cycle, in which Lawhead moves forward in his retelling of Arthurian legend onto a little firmer historical ground, in that time between end of Roman military presence and establishment of island-wide political rule.

This slim historical grounding gives Lawhead's tale believability, and he writes in fast-moving style, seldom bogged down in breathless romanticism, and sometimes rising to profound and humorous levels in retelling this oft-told tale.

Book three in the series: Arthur (The Pendragon Cycle, Book 3)

Used Price: $49.97

Book Three of The Pendragon Cycle, in which Lawhead tells the climactic story of Arthur's kingmaking and consolidation of British power, and ends with his anti-climactic death (or just "fading into the west"?).

While all this should have been stirring and emotional, Lawhead's writing this time out seems flat, with a couple of long "bard stories" that are confusing and best skipped over, and battle scenes which are either seemingly interminable or laughably short ("We faced 50,000 barbarians with 500 horse, and slew them all, Jesu be praised").

Book four in the series: Pendragon: Book Four of the Pendragon Cycle (The Pendragon Cycle)

5.Byzantium by: Steve Lawhead

Books : Byzantium
This is by far the best historical fiction book I have ever read. The author created characters who you actually grow to care about as you read, which is something rare in books today. None of the majore characters in the book are black and white. While the Vikings are bloodthirsty marauders motivated by greed and belief that death in battle will grant them access to a warrior's paradise, they also have deep convictions about honor, and once Aidan, the main character gains their respect, they would give their lives to defend him, even though he was their slave not long before. Aidan is a monk, but like all men, he is not perfect. He experiences a crisis of faith and has to search his soul to find out what his life truly means.

The book starts rather slow, which made me shelf it for a couple ... Read More

6.Grail: Book Five in the Pendragon Cycle by: Steve Lawhead

Books : Grail: Book Five in the Pendragon Cycle
Book Five of The Pendragon Cycle, which fumbles to a close amidst a mumbo-jumbo of mysterious fogs, forest, and phantom fighters who attack the good guys (Arthur and Company) as they attempt to recover the stolen Grail. The Grail is the hero of the day, but with the wrap-up of the series in just a couple of pages, is curiously ignored.

I think it comes back with them to the home of the lost Atlanteans, where the story would then dovetail into the end of the third book, where Arthur is wounded in combat and "goes away", while the Grail is safely hidden on the Island of Avalon with the Fisher King of Atlantis.

Yeah, it goes like that. In all, the series started strong in the first two books, and raised my hope that it my continue to crescendo to a great finale. It didn't. Best bet: Begin ... Read More

Books : The Endless Knot (Song of Albion, Book 3)
The last book in the series, it took me about a week to get through the first two books, and about 2 days to finisht his one, simply because I ran out of time and had spent an entire day reading. A great book that I simply could not put down, I would recommend this to anyone.

Books : In the Hall of the Dragon King (Dragon King Trilogy, No. 1)
In the Hall of the Dragon King is a GREAT begining to a series. You, as a reader, instantly like the main characters and are thrown headlong into their quest for truth and the salvation of their kindgom. Lawhead shows that even in the first series he published, he already had that...that...I don't even know if words can describe it. Lawhead is one of my favorite authors and this book lives up to any and all expectations I had. It is worth any price Amazon can set.

Book Four of The Pendragon Cycle, in which Lawhead doubles back and retells more of the story of Arthur that wasn't told in Book Three.

The stories are told through Merlin's voice this time, and are more interesting than those in Book Three, but the whole thing smacks of stretching out the series to enhance the royalties.

Book five in the series: Grail (The Pendragon Cycle, Book 5) (just a warning, it doesn't live up to the best of the series, the first three books starting with Taliesin: Book One of the Pendragon Cycle).

When I received the product from the seller, it was not in the "new" condition that as described on the amazon listing. I returned the book, however I sent it to the warehouse instead of the return processing center. Because of this mistake, the seller was not able to locate the book, however, they still issued me a full refund. This is customer service that exceeded my expectations. I might have expected a partial refund, but was very pleased to recieve the full refund. I will certainly do business with them again despite the small problem with the condition of the book.
