Paris is a fascinating city. As a traveler familiar with Lonely Planet's format, the Paris guide was very helpful, particularly with the walking tour and excursion descriptions. I found the maps easy to use and there was a ton of information. Unfortunately, there isn't anything inexpensive about Paris, but public transportation is reasonable and accessible. Thank you, Lonely Planet, for continuing to put out a great travel guide.

The France guide went with me a few months ago, and it was great as always. No matter what my travel destination is, I try to take a Lonely Planet guide. I like the commentary and recommendations. I trust the lodging recommendations when I want to make reservations.

The lonely planet was adequate, but not great. It overemphasizes certain sites at the expense of others and conjures a narrow view of the city in question. It is hard to find specific examples, only that I found I used the guide less and less in favor of simply exploring on my own.

This is the kind of book that gives LP the great reputation that it deserves. The guide was generally helpful for both Budapest and Eger, and we used it religiously for our one-week visit to the country. However, it would have been useful to have translations of the phrase "Is service included in the bill" (I have also found many other LP guides also omit this useful phrase). We would have also appreciated a more in-depth historical background. The historical description between the 1960s-90s was a little light. This is a far cry from LP's Romania book, which was decent at best.

Well written and conceived. The brief history was helpful to help understand the people and the circumstances of the people today. The diet section was great. In describing the various geographic areas of the country I would have liked more pictures. The written explanations were great but never having been to the country, more pictures would have helped. I think it would be a great addition if there were internet video links to get a really good feel for the geography.

For my week in Hong Kong, I used Frommer's guide as my main guide, but took this as a secondary guide because of its maps. It has very good local area maps for the neighborhoods it covers, showing sights, hotels, restaurants, and shops. I found it most useful for locating shops and sights. Unlike the other HK guides I looked at, this one includes the written Chinese names of the places it covers. This could be useful if you need to give a taxi driver written destinations. The book's coverage is very limited. I would not recommend it as your only guidebook. I found it worth it for the maps, but it's a bit expensive just for that.

Unless you are going to Budapest on a long weekend, save your money and buy Lonely Planet Hungary instead. Almost all of the information is in there with additional information on nearby areas. The metro system is under going a massive renovation so check with a local TI instead of the books to find out what lines are running.
