The Love Dare is the most effective book I have ever read on marriage and how to repair damage done, and restore marital harmony. The reason I believe it works so well is it's simple daily approach, and because it requires honest self examination. These principles ARE Christian and the scripture that backs up the daily actions is made more clear in the context of personal relationship, married or otherwise. It is premised in part on the fact that we are all imperfect people, and basically selfish, and that we can build on our successes and virtues, rather than focus on our shortcomings, complaints, and petty differences. I couldn't put this book down and can't wait to see the movie. I read this book in 2 days while on vacation. A really great read. This story is a great way to appreciate your marriage and put it back on track.

Douglass and Lincoln is an exceptionally researched and well-written book on the relationship between these two important men. Most of the book focuses on Douglass rather than Lincoln, perhaps necessarily so. The Kendricks do a superb job of tracing Lincoln's slow transformation from a leader reluctant to press the emancipation issue to one who eventually embraced it, all within the context of Douglass's lifelong struggle not only for emancipation, but for equality. Douglass and Lincoln met only a few times, but it's evident in this book that they held a mutual respect for each other due to each man's struggle against adversity in their early lives. I recommend this book not only because it is well-researched, but because it's well-written. It's quite a page turner. I couldn't put it down.
