I became fed up with the supersticious side of feng shui but reading this restored my faith. Simon Brown dispells the myths and shows how it really works. He does it so well it seems common sense after a while. No wonder he does so much work for big corperations.

I tried moving my bed and changed my work position according to this book and it worked. I really do feel better.

I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a straight forward approach to feng shui.

Java's web technology has always been my fascination. This book opened up a whole new perspective on Java and JSP for me.
The book that I truly started learning JSP with is "More Servlets and Java Server Pages" by Marty Hall. That book breaks down piece by piece how it all works. It's a really great book. "Pro JSP" shows you how to exploit that knowledge to turn it into something truly useful. If you are a Java web developer you know that Java web applications can be slow and clumsy. Have you ever wondered how the sites like Amazon are written in Java and can handle millions of hits a day? Well, that book explains the technology behind those kinds of applications.
The book makes very extensive use of EL (not something I am very fond of). It shows you how far you can go with JSTL ... Read More

I needed a "beginner book" on Feng Shui and decorating, and I found this book to be a great overall intro to Feng Shui, as well as interior decorating and exterior design, after perusing many similar, but not as good, Feng Shui books. If you don't know anything about feng shui, this is a great place to start. Not too much "hocus pocus" with the animals and numbers and such, just good practical applications, mainly based on the cardinal directions and layout the main rooms of the house (as well as the exterior) that you can use right away. The advice makes sense immediately, works immediately, and provides the essential "a-ha" experience; as in, "A-ha! So that's why this room never felt right!" Simon Brown doesn't just focus on lay out; he also focuses on materials (wood, metal, plants, stone, ... Read More

At first read,I wished I'd just gotten this book from my local library. It seemed unlikely to be a book I would refer to for inspiration and ideas. Some of the interiors were downright dingy and depressing (the kitchen from all scraps and found materials just looked like you'd expect it to look-cold, uninviting and plain ghastly). The cover picture is the most fetching / captivating photo of the entire book.(I considered returning this book weighing cost of shipping back vs. money already spent and decided on keeping).I have since reread it and have to admit the author has some gem interior decorating insights--who new pink/rose walls could be a warm neutral? I like the emphasis on using old and found/recycled materials. If you are a fan of the Shabby Chic series this book may greatly appeal to ... Read More

One of the joys that I have is my mail box.

There are days I open my mail and receive bills, while other days I open packages from Archie, DC, Moonstone, and Graphic Classics. This month, Tom Pomplun has compiled yet another gold standard collection.

The 2nd Edition of Mark Twain includes a delightful new adaptation of "Tom Sawyer Abroad" by Pomplun and George Sellas. I loved the story and art and thought it was a great continuation of Tom Sawyer. Tom and Huck in Egypt certainly could have got into a lot more trouble, but the going home to the States for a corn cob pipe is hilarious!

I first came across this book in my local library. I was so enchanted by the different designs, that after tiring of renewing it, I have decided to order my own copy. I recommend it to any person interested in needlepoint, as well as global designs...
