The tree that keeps giving, wanting nothing in return but to please the little boy. It's a wonderful story and teaches a lesson, at any age. I found myself feeling like the giving tree lately, while part of a non-profit organization. When I verbalized the analogy, I realized that many people had never heard of the book. It's on top of my gift list this year.

A completely magical collection! The imagination and wit of Shel Silverstein never ceases to amaze me as he does anything to make kids laugh (and, to my eternal gratitude) educate them. Make no mistake, the man is too intelligent to be just silly. There is intelligence to each and every poem, even if it is ust the word structure. As a teacher, I best appreciate this due to the different ages it reaches. I found myself reading my class one poem only to end if half way do to semi-mature content (come on, it's first grade, they can't hear everything). Shel Silverstein is the Man.

I really loved this book as a kid and I'm hopeing my daughter who I'm introducing to it will feel the same way.

I distinctly remember both my parents and grandparents reading to me as a child. Later, when I grew up a little, I was able to read for myself. Shel Silverstein's "A light in the Attic" and "Where the Sidewalk ends" were among my favorites on the bookshelf. Many of Silverstein's poems have just the right essence of "weird" to appeal to the mind of a child and the sketches that accompany some of the poems seem to add a little punch. Many of his poems like "The little Boy and the Old Man" will remain a part of you long after you outgrow everything else. Buy "A Light in the Attic". Buy "Where the Sidewalk Ends". Read them to your children. Encourage your children to read themselves and keep both books on your shelf for your grandchildren. You won't be disappointed.

Shel Silverstein's poems are always truly a delight. Some of the collections, however, contain poems that are not quite appropriate for the very youngest listeners. A Giraffe and a Half IS targeted at the youngest audiences. As the poem goes on, the titular giraffe is exposed to a more riotously funny situation on every page (a rose on his nose, glue on his shoe, etc.) My kids were laughing hard, and completing the rhyming phrases by the time the tired (and ludicrously attired) giraffe is rescued from visiting the mole in his hole, and divested of all his rhyming add-ons by various (also rhyming) people and animals. This is a great book to read aloud to your children--just remember to take a BIG breath at the beginning of each page!

Dear reader of this review, you might be wondering why Shel Silverstein titled his book Runny Babbit. It's Bunny Rabbit with the first letter switched around. So it's Runny Babbit. In this book a bunny rabbit lives in a town and everybody speaks in a weird way. Just to let you know all the pages are poems of how the rabbit lives. A reminder while you're reading this book, you might notice something funny, or I mean runny, about the words. You should read Runny Babbit. I would read this book a million times if I could. If I could give this book stars, it would be a million stars! RAPPY HEADING!!!

This author is hilarious for his silly and humorous storytelling. I had heard of this book and decided to purchase it and donate it to a non-profit organization for their fundraiser. Sharing books for me either in reading to my children and grandchildren or giving them away as gifts is something that brings me joy.
