Getting to Yes is an excellent book on negotiating, one that can be applied to almost any situation. For example, I've used the principles from the book in negotiations for: - purchasing homes - new jobs/salary/compensation - purchasing enterprise software & business services - purchasing media - team/project situations - etc. While the workbook doesn't provide any new material, it does provide a helpful format for negotiation preparation. On any of the negotiations I listed above the book and workbook and have paid for themselves many times over. Is it fantastic reading? No. Is it worth it's weight in gold/platinum/diamonds? Absolutely.

I recently bought this book from Amazon and really liked it. The book breaks down the leadership process and helps the reader to achieve the goals individually and then 'laterally' lead his/her team to achieve the same. Simple advice coupled with relevant examples make it easy to read and implement. Highly recommended for anyone working in a team environment.

This book's singular message is this: to succeed and win, great companies need to have a purpose that has a moralistic bent to it that everyone can jump on board with and follow. This purpose will drive your strategy and values (which will come effortlessly after you figure out what your purpose is.) This is different from the over-done and often useless "mission" and also different from the a-moralistic "vision" which sets out a path for the future. Purpose by contrast, puts a stake in the ground about what your company believes in at its core. Purpose is a direction for the company but not necessarily a snapshot of its destination. My profile: 42 yo, sales engineer. I find this audiobook a constant refernce in my travel pack. As a sales engineer on the road I keep resorting to the techniques of this book to find the break-through awakening in the negotiation process. This approach is not ivory-towered inspirired, its based on very concrete situations and it calls for leaderhip qualities that are assumed by default since you are your own worst enemy. I find this audiobook more complete than getting to yes and a complement to it. negotiation is not a subject just to be left to one tool or aproach, I encourage anyone inetrested in the theme to spice-it-up with other tip observing book such as Herb Cohen's. Be prepared to study and use a powerful technique.

This book is a fine contribution, but does not stand alone and is in some respects incomplete. It emerges from Harvard's Negotiation Project. If focuses on conflict resolution as a process that requires a checklist, an analytic toolkit, and an action plan. The comment that got me past being a skeptic of this academic work: "International relations should not be a spectator sport." The authors are right: IR is about your life and the future of all generations. Prior to 911 Senators and Congressman would brag about not having a passport because nothing oversees mattered to their constituents. 911 made their idiocy plain to all.
