The Age of Apocalypse satisfies the inherent "What-If?" cravings that most readers are prey to: what is professor Xavier had died and his dream along with him? The Age of Apocalypse answers this questions in the most dramatic way possible.

First off, the technical issues: as mentioned, although this is labeled Book 2 by Marvel, it is in fact "Book 1", with the actual Book 1 containing one-off or self-contained stories that are not continuous in the main storyline. You may pick up this book without the previous one and not feel like you just jumped in midway.

... assuming you are already familiar with the X-Universe. There are at least 50 Characters in this Graphic Novel, almost all of whom are modified versions of existing characters in the mainstream Marvel Universe. ... Read More

Caps the end of a truly interesting time in Marvel's history. The reimagining of various X-Men characters, coupled with an updated history of many other Marvel icons, bring this memorable series to a close. This issue continues with much of the high drama from earlier issues and leads to many satisifying conclusions along with quite a number of tragic ones. A truly great read!

in volume 4 the age of apocalypse comes to an end in the issue xmen omega. however for some reason there are more issues included afterwards that really have little to do with AoA. the AoA series is great but i think these collections could have been better. they could have left out some of the stuff in volume one and all the stuff after xmen omega in volume 4 and made it into three volumes.

This story has a lot of fights and drama, this tale is why I began to read X-men, the plot is similar to the cartoon serie's episode "one man's worth", but more interesting, the art is really good, and the pages has a lot of color for an old reprint, I think it is a must read.

To start X-Men is my favorite comic, always has been and always will be. That being said there is alot of malarky that passes for X-Men these days (X-Men 3 and most of Ultimate X-Men for starters) and I am glad to see a comic take on the origin story and be so new and exciting. The characters develop well and the stories contained in this first tpb are nothing short of what an avid fan should expect. Each page was well worth the purchase and in the six months I have had it I have read it three times. Most definetly worth buying if your a fan of the X-Men or for the uninitiated it's a great start.

Ultimate X-Men will just never be for me, I am afraid. I understand why
they are doing it, and it is has obviously been successful, but
eventually they will run into the same problems and reasons for doing
this universe. What will they do then, the same thing? A bit of the
manga art style here, too, that I am usually not a fan of when
hybridised like this, and a crossover Japanese writer, as well.
