Robert Kagan's Return of History has been appropriately named by the author. There is nothing new in this book except skillful writing. Much of these forewarnings in respect of liberal democratic capitalism has been known to foreign policy experts like Huntington, Paul kennedy, etc long ago. The crux of the matter is not so much to highlight these issues as to look for the causes leading to post cold war developments and disturbances. My book Tracing the Eagle's Orbit does this. This otherwise awful book is important to read as an historical document so that we know how we got into the current mess in Iraq (and at home in America, with our mass deficit and debt). This book shows us the Neoconservative fantasy of creating a new century of pax Americana and benevolent imperialism, which was then put into operation after 9/11 and has since led us into the catastrophic disaster that is Iraq. Read this book and then never believe or listen to another word that these deluded Neocon ideologues say. Even Francis Fukuyama has now abandoned this crazed utopian fantasty. Read his new book after you've finished this piece of pure fiction

This is probably the best book I've seen about Nicaragua and the Cold War during the 1980's. I did a research project there for several months and found Kagan's book to be very helpful and very accurate. Too bad it's out of print.

This is probably the best book I've seen about Nicaragua and the Cold War during the 1980's. I did a research project there for several months and found Kagan's book to be very helpful and very accurate. Too bad it's out of print.
