Baer raises a few interesting points here, but the logic and over-the-top conclusions make the book a fatally flawed one. While Iran and it's proxies have adroitly exploited the mistakes of their adversaries, you can't bank or build an empire on waiting for your enemies to blunder. The US stumbled badly in invading Iraq and in doing so handed a great deal gain to Iran. That Iran took what was handed to them is hardly indicative of some type of Iranian political genius. Similarly, Baer repeatedly sites Hezbollah "victories" over Israel as the basis for a number of his arguments. This book is a must read for anyone that wants to know why something like 9-11 happened and why it will happen again. The inner workings of the CIA are laid bare for us to see. You will be proud and horrified all at the same time. Mr. Baer writes a very enjoyable narrative and fills this book with information that makes you feel like you are eavesdropping on the seventh floor. Read this and then go get his other books. They are worth any price.

The author has written a well thought out account of his experiences being employed with the CIA while stationed in the Middle East. Even though this book was written 5 years ago, it still translates well and is applicable for today's reader. I personally was shocked and dismayed to discover how our country's leaders are so embedded with the Saudi Royal Family. More importantly, I am dismayed to read how entrenched our leaders of today are entrenched with the Royal Family who has fueled and funded the very men and women who are trying to destroy our country. I had the feeling reading this book that I was being let in on a secret that many want to keep hidden from public consumption. That is either the case or Mr. Baer has written a very believable novel. I don't know which to believe. It was well written and compelling. One of the better spy novels written by a real spy. You couldn't ask for more. This is a book that you will have to read between the lines to fully get everything out of it.
