Great reference book! Graphics are useful (especially for quick look at common adverse effects). Gives succinct description of how drugs in a class work and examples of drugs in a class.

How quickly the system of government can break down. Richard Clarke should be considered an American Hero, if not for his faithful service under four Presidents then for his defiance of the unseemly Bush Administration. The President, who is responsible for protecting the nation, did not step forward to assure the victims of 9/11 that he would not let this stand. Instead it was Richard Clarke who had to apollogize to those families and step out of government in order for his voice to be heard. His recollections of that infamous day and his suggestions afterwards are lessons that the entire nation must hear. This book marks a piece of history that will never outlive its value.

I'm not one to read political books, but after seeing Richard on an interview, I felt I had to read this book. And I was in for a shock. Not since THE SHINING have I ever read a more horrifying book. The monsters in this book are REAL and you can see how evil people rise to power by reading this book. Yes, real evil. We've all been under its influence because real evil rises to power skillfully and blinds people to not seeing the truth. Thankfully, Clarke tells us all what we need to hear to shed light on the darkness that set the world against us as we dropped the ball of our original vision. Congrats Richard--this is an amazing work!

"Stand the Storm" was interesting from a historical perspective but it did not capture much in the way of the personalities of the time or the characters. While I respected Gabriel and his family, I could not warm up to them. The book was well written but also one that was very easy to put down.

All right. I've been looking forward to this book for a long time. I've heard great things about Frostburn. I had a positive reaction to Sandstorm. This is the third book in the environment series and it deals with one of my great loves . . . the sea. So how did Richard Baker, Joseph D. Carriker, Jr., and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes do? Did this Wizards of the Coast book meet my (admittedly high) expectations? Well, no. I can't recommend this book. I wouldn't have bought it but that's because it fell woefully short on the only areas I'm likely to use. Your game might differ, so lets discuss what they book actually contains. This is one of few books I selected with reasonable expectations and then could not read it all the way through. After suffering through half of the book I looked at the ending and threw the book away. I have an immense respect for Richard Clark, his experience and expertise. But he has written here a story that lacks the main ingredient of a thriller - an interesting, captivating action. I would not mind some scientific improbabilities. I would like a much better characterization, or rather, at least some characterization, but I could even forgive that, if there were something in a chapter that would want me to read the next one. There are some useful ideas in this book, but you have to dig them out. The authors have given us a hodge-podge of techniques, often without the detail one needs to use them confidently. There isn't much literature around about making collagraphs, so any information at all is welcome. Buy it if you're interested in this subject, but be prepared to live with trial-and-error printmaking till you get the hang of it.

The Case for Mars describes a way to send explorers and settlers to mars, an explanation of how colonization would work and an argument for why we should do both. Robert Zubrin is an Aeronautical engineer who has worked on space projects. The Case for Mars has sufficient technical detail to make his arguments persuasive. The technical topics are well explained with out being overwhelming or tedious for a non-technical audience, like myself. There are notes at the end of some chapters that go into greater detail. In the Case for Mars Zubrin explains his "Mars Direct" plan for piloted flights to Mars. Mars Direct was created in response to NASA's "90 day plan" for going to Mars.
