This is a good buy for young children. I was impressed with the variety. But many 8 year olds will find it too simple. For kids getting tired of coloring books, you might want to look into a Klutz book or something more exciting.

I ordered this world map and shipping was very quick and arrived (rolled) in perfect condition, there was just one problem... I received a US map in the mail instead of the world map I ordered. Obviously I e-mailed about the return policy, and I was prepared for the headache of having to return a $4 map. Then next day I got an e-mail back apologizing for the mix-up. My money was refunded and I did not have to send back the US map. The only thing I had to do was order the world map again (and the price had gone down on it). My 1st Rand McNalley Atlas is many years old, so I thought I deserved a new one. I love maps and used my 1st one many times. The 2009 Atlas is just what I wanted, is greatly expanded, and good for planning road trips in other states. In my head, I've taken different routes to familiar places and to ones I've never been. It's a good reference and I think it's great.

My only problem with this item was the delivery method-super saver shipping with the USPS. It arrived in a long tube that had obviously been bent in half. The map itself was dented but not ripped. I chose not to get involved with the headache of dealing with USPS & Amazon to return the map. I can live with it. However, I would caution others to not think economics with this item. The other options may be more advantageous. And, if you have a mall nearby, take a drive and get it yourself.

The map arrived quickly and well packaged. It is a paper map with no lamination, but it was exactly what I needed. I did a trifold display for a conference with the map as a background for pictures I was posting of disaster response teams throughout the US. It was the perfect size. Thanks.

Was looking for a world map to go in my study. Requirements were: 1) Do not need a laminated one as I am not planning on writing on it 2) Should be big enough [It's 50 x 32] 3) Should look elegant This map fulfilled ALL of the above at an excellent price! Looks like Amazon listened to the customer feedback and shipped it in a solid shipping container; absolutely NO damage to the map inside.

I bought two of these books for my 9-year old and 12-year old daughters. They kept both of them entertained for two 5 hours rides with more left. My older daughter especially enjoyed searching for different license plates and checking them off in the book. I'd definitely recommend this book for older kids for a road trip.

This is an update to my first review, which reflected my unhappiness with the vendor regarding the length of time in shipping the textbook purchased. Subsequent to the first review, the vendor contacted me and credited the entire amount of the purchase with an apology. While a credit of the shipping charge which was unsolocited would have sufficed, I wanted to make potential buyers aware that this particular vendor went out of his way to address the matter and he would be someone I would use again and would recommend to any potential buyer.

This atlas has nice size easy to read maps, helpful city map inserts, spiral binding for ease of keeping a page open. Recommend it highly.
