For my money Mr Salvatore is fantasy GOLD! He just missed the mark with this one. Too much "pirate politics" and not enough about the classic charactors we care about. Drizzt has gone from a quick thinking sword swinging take no prisoners hero to a wishy washy cog in the Luskan political machine. I have read everything RAS has written and loved them all...Except for this one. Too bad and the wait will be long but I will buy again!

Ok, let's start by saying that to call myself a fan of R A Salvatore would be a huge understatement. I have read just about every book he has written and my favorites by far are the books involving Drizzt and The Companions of the Hall. But my review really is to review the whiners reviewing The Orc King. And yes I know we are each entitled to our own opinion, so here's mine. First let me say after reading all of the negative and a few of the positive aswell that I am surprised that anyone that wrote a negative review can even read to begin with. Grab a dictionary or go back to school and learn how to spell and phrase a sentence correctly. I was very curious on this book being that R.A. Salvatore's son wrote it along with R.A. Salvatore. You can easily discern what each of them wrote as they have different writing styles. Nonetheless, they are both exquisite writing styles. It surprised me as young Salvatore has the same writing gift as Salvatore Sr. A must read for Realms Fans!

These books are freakin' amazing. R.A. Salvator describes the battle scenes in such detail. If you read any action or scifi books or play WoW or D&D you will like this book. Even if you don't do those things you will still like this book :]

A read i just could not put down! literally, i finished the series in 2 days! the level of action and intensity only furthered the already epic tale that is Salvatore's Drizzt Du'Urden.

This trilogy of books was my introduction to not only Salvatore, but also fantasy-- and also my interest in reading. These stories were well off for a first time reader of Salvatore's style, which jumps from character group to character group at every "story break" (separation of differing story parts in each chapter). That being said, Salvatore drew me into fantasy with these books, but I learned that they were crap. The good about the books is Drizzt's several journal entries, spaced throughout the book. They show a great deal of character development. Since Salvatore does not come out and say "this made him feel upset" or have Drizzt talk about his feelings in the story, this part was very interesting; instead of reading a page of paragraphs to find out how something affected Drizzt, Salvatore explains ... I don't know...I really like the Drizz't series although I have only read these 3 as well as the Dark Elf Trilogy (awesome). It's just that it seems like no matter what happens, 84 wererats or 144 trolls or 1000 duergar dwarves or freaking dragons or falling unconscious in an abyss with thousands of bloodsucking demodands around doesn't actually cause anyones demise. I'm not saying this needs to be like Martin's stuff with every page a question of who lives or dies but damn I wrote off some of the characters so many times that I realize now they are (gulp) invincible! Well, it doesn't matter, if your ready for a good yarn and likeable (for the most part) characters and a nice smooth read then get this series. You will like it.
