Books : "Where Did I Come From?" - The facts of life without any nonsense and with illustrations.
I gave this book two stars instead of one because it won't hurt the child if he/she reads it. But it's definitely not what I had in mind for the first conversation with my 8-year-old daughter about how babies are made, and I'm glad I looked at it at the store before committing.

Problem number 1 is that there is too much emphasis on the description of the sexual intercourse and feelings during it. For this age, I would prefer something focused on reproduction and anatomy. The whole book is just a dozen pages, and this part takes up three or four of them! The description is cheesy, silly and just doesn't do the deed any justice ('wiggling' and 'tickling' are the typical words).

Problem number 2 is, as mentioned by other reviewers, that it's very male-centric. There ... Read More

Books : Monster
Monster, by Walter Dean Myers, is to say the least an interesting book. The stories protagonist, Steve, is put on trial for murder because he "aided in a robbery that led to the murder". The book is written mostly in a format for a movie, for Steve writes the movie script to help him cope with the trial and the trauma that is occurring inside of him. In the end, Steve is found innocent and released, but Myers is never clear if Steve really did assist in the robbery, leaving the reader to have to choose for themselves if Steve is truly guilty or innocent.
I thought this book was overall a good read. The drama of the storyline mixed with the mystery of Steve's actions certainly kept me fascinated from cover to cover. The idea to write in a movie script was a very creative idea on ... Read More

The Birth of Tragedy-75 Aphorism-Beyond Good and Evil-The Genealogy of Morals (3 Essays)-The Case of Wagner-Interpretations/commentaries

A great collection, though a strange chronological leap from BOT to BGE. Right for the price and a great review of the later published books of FN. All of Kaufmann's footnotes are maintained. You'll at least want to have had read The Gay Science before coming to this, or even TSZ; Beyond Good and Evil and The Genealogy of Morals are NOT the place to get your feet wet and FN is not joking in Ecce Homo when he says that a close reading and familiarity with his earlier writings is necessary to delve and dredge up all that he has thought through--and to then move on to further possibilities presented by the various threads lain therein.

I will not purchase again from Amazon.com. The book was promised on a specific date before purchase to reel me in, but after the credit card transaction they extended the date for a month after what was promised.
After that additional period that amazon gave itself at my expense, the book still wasn't shipped. Two weeks later I recieved an e-mail & this review survey, but still no book. BUYER BE WARE!

This textbook stands out as one of the best books I've used in college. I was able to learn better from the book than from class. The illustrations were very helpful and the explanations were easy to comprehend for being difficult material, which actually stuck in my head. I was so glad to have this book!

"Three Views on the New Testament Use of the Old" is a collection and interaction of three essays on the topic of how to understand the New Testament authors' use of the Old Testament. The three contributors to the book are Walter Kaiser (single meaning, unified referents view), Darrell Bock (single meaning, multiple contexts and referents view), and Peter Enns (fuller meaning, single goal view). Each of the three lengthy chapters includes an essay by one of the contributors espousing his view followed by two short responses by the other contributors.

Co-editor Jonathan Lunde lays the conceptual foundation for the rest of the work in the introduction and orients the reader to the book's primary question when he writes, "When New Testament authors appeal to OT texts in order to support ... Read More

Books : Scorpions
The book Scorpions by Walter Dean Meyers is a tremendous book that made me wonder about life in gangs. Jamal Hicks a character with a lot of life and attitude is trying to get his gang bound brother out of prision. As he goes along his journey of trying to find money for the appeal it makes the reader very excited, worried, and scared. Although the story is short and more to be desired, the characters are full of life and energy. I think that you should go out and read the book Scorpions because it is truly one of the greatest books I've ever read. I gave it four and half out of 5 stars.

This book arrived 3 days before i had a protein lab report due and it was a godsend. Trying to cover the subject depth required in the precipitant lectures is next to impossible and increasingly students are needing to do independent study to gain a definitive understanding. This text covers so many topics and in such great detail as well. Other texts cover similar areas but i have not found any that deliver the level of detail that this one does. It covers complex themes and delivers them in an easy to understand format. I also like the fact that it is red as it helps it stand out from the hundred other texts in my bookcase. I would thoroughly encourage anyone studying any biological science to add this text to their collection.
