While this book is somewhat entertaining to flip through, the new style of generic artwork and animation ruins the experience. Gone are the old type illustrations and artwork of these characters from the original artists of the 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's. They have all been replaced by crappy updated "ultimate" style animations and CHEESY artwork that really is sub-standard in appearance. Most of these characters drawings are very simplistic in their quality and presentation. It is very difficult for old Marvel fans like me to tolerate these low quality renditions. Just not acceptable. Skip it unless you must have it.

If you are a hard-core Marvel Comics fan, and know your Super Heroes from way back when, then this marvel (excuse the pun!) of a book - which is truly a vault of treasures - will certainly enthrall you! That said: if, however, you are a fairly recent fan and only know the latest Heroes, or if you are only interested in heroes like Spidey or the Fantastic Four, then this book might not be so fantastic for you. Nevertheless, it is a great addition to any bibliophile's library, and the price is sweet too! The "Vault" holds some excellent items of memorabilia, and some of the treasures in it are signed pencil illustrations, a few collectors' cards, and a Stan Lee Book of Marvel Goofs. nice basic encyclopedia for ppl who wanna review some chracters or learn some unknowm material to them, but it is alil out of date so some recent info are missing

I know there are alot of things that could be complained about if you want to get picky, there's bound to be SOMEONE who doesn't have a full entry, or their own entry, and it's true, there ARE a few...but SERIOUSLY! The most comprehensive encyclopedia of the Marvel character universe ever undertaken! No longer is your favorite hero or villian reduced to a maximum of one page, now whatever it takes to flesh out the bio, the more that's in there. Rich, imaginative diagrams and spec sheets of just about everything non-living that has an importance in Marvel. Iron Man's armor, the Avengers Mansion, too many to list. Read the whole first edition in a sit down, I remember my brother buying the original series, simply overwhelming, and a MUST OWN for any more than casual Marvel fan.
