I purchased this book under the assumption that I would be able to walk away with an understanding of the Mayan calendar and it's "Predictions, Prophecies & Possibilities", since 2012 obviously has a close affinity to it. About eighty-percent of the authors never even allude to the Mayans, so this definitely does not ameliorate one's intellect on them. There are indeed authors of essays that do elaborate on the subject of the Mayans and go more into detail about their perspective utilizing elements from the Mayan culture. However, there are others, which is unfortunately the masses, and even if I am partial to attributes of their interpretations, that had me quite incensed. The only reason I would simultaneously retort these and advocate certain elements is a thing called constructive ... Read More

2.Hamlet (signed and numbered edition) by: Kenneth Branagh, William Shakespeare, Russell Jackson
1996-12
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Hamlet (signed and numbered edition)
Let me begin by saying that Hamlet is truly an amazing play. By far, my favorite drama, Shakespearian or otherwise. Telling the story of a man searching for the light amid mind-boggling darkness, Hamlet reveals more about the conflicts people face in their own lifetimes than any other piece of literature.

This edition includes an introduction about the life of Shakespeare, including a completed works list, and even some words of his own creation. After the unabridged play, several very noteworthy critical reviews reveal more and more about Hamlet than any other comparable binding. At the price and information contained within in its pages, you simply cannot find a better edition of this awe-inspiring drama.

It's remarkable how this centuries old treatise on politics remains as timely and insightful.

If you substitute the words "the government" whenever Machiavelli refers to "the prince," you may find yourself agreeing that his suggestions are reasonable when it comes to preserving order. Somewhat shocking...

Many have interpreted the historical analysis of this great among philosophers as that of a cynical and cold politician, and there is certainly an element of cynical and cold politics in the reality depicted. A more careful and less pre-conditioned reading, however, will reveal a profound and painstakingly truthful work, that manifests the author's mastery of not only history but individual and group psychology, all of which crafted with utmost humility and an elegance that borders on mathematical logic. Machiavelli's work, in totality, is a rendering of our human plight that elevates the smallness of the condition to divine heights, and the violence of history to platonic grace. The writing style is so simple, and the translation so well done, that rarely will a sentence need to be read twice. A work of poetry, and at the ... Read More

As a window into the life of a Native American tribe that has lived on Cape Cod since long before the Mayflower landed in Plymouth, this book stretches well beyond the Clambake. Beautifully told and photographed, it is the story of how Steven, a Wampanoag Indian boy, is instructed in the tradition of clambaking from his grandfather, Russell Peters. In the process, he learns a great deal about his people, as does the reader.

I am a physics student myself and was looking for books by top scientists whose insight lead them to radical new world views. And indeed, this book proposes a new paradigm that appears consistent with both science and some aspects of different religions. It contains interesting observations and ideas; so far so good.

Unfortunately, Peter Russell doesn't write like a scientist, but as a person with religious convictions. He has lost his sense of skepticism and presents his ideas as a truth that will inevitably become the new "metaparadigm".

Worse, the book gives an incomplete picture and leaves the critical reader with some rather concerning questions that were never answered. What happens when we die? After we die? Is there a purpose with life? Another disturbing issue is that even though he claims ... Read More

I totally agree with the previous review written by E. A. Solinas.
This is an excellent reference and background book for the LOL Fellowship of the Ring movie.

A well written, nicely illustrated, quite comprehensive book on the female genital tract pathology.

The main plus are the clear illustrations all of which are in colour so it serves as an atlas as well as a textbook (versus the black and white photos of the Blaustein, which in my opinion is a better text).

This is quite recent and so up to date (this ed. was published late 2001/2002).
