This is a great book for beginning Photoshop Elements users. Very clear and easy to use.

Perfect book for my needs. I'm a photographer who wanted a book that would allow me to get familiar with the basics of Photoshop quickly. Some of the posters feel this book is repetitive of other Kelby products, nonetheless you won't be disappointed. If you aren't at all familiar with Photoshop, you may not want to jump chapters. As you progress through the book, Matt assumes you have done the previous projects, and doesn't re-explain how to execute certain tasks. As per what some previous posts have stated, this book may be too basic for them. If this is you, not a problem, there are many more advanced titles to be purchased. But for what this book IS, it delivers. Next stop, Restoration & Retouching by Katrin Eismann.

Other books covering Windows Vista are unnecessarily complicated for your basic user: not so The Windows Vista Book. All the tips are great for beginners. I am a professional and found only 5% of the book helpful. Not worth the money for only learning 5%. Most of the tips I already knew. For sure it's a beginners book. I have to say after reading through it ONLY once......the book binder fell completely apart! The glue on the binder did not hold up at all. Now all the pages are falling out. TERRIBLE!

I love all the Photoshop books that walk you through step by step and you don't have to use the authors graphics on their CD. I like that I can learn the technique step by step and use my own designs. I recommend to any one that likes the Down and Dirty Tricks by Scott Kelby to get this book too.

The book is informal, and easy to read. However, when working through exercises, occasionally some instructional steps are skipped. You go from Point A to Point B to Point D. What happened to C? C is necessary to achieve the final effect. Pretty sloppy. Also, at times, some fairly involved steps are introduced to achieve an effect for no apparent reason. For example, on Page 80, while learning about the single column marquee selection tool, the author goes into a farily elaborate process for creating simulated woodgrain: Choose Filter, Noise, Add Noise, 400. Choose Edit, Transform, Scale. A bounding box appears, drag the left and right side so noise fills the window. Choose image, Adjustments, Hue/Sturation. Reading this book I was reminded that the humor of Scott Kelby leaves me a little cold. I guess being published by SK means the book must provide a sampling of his type of humor. The humor is funny at first reading but the third or fourth time it grows very dim. That rant over I must say that the book is really good. It provides insight into Adobe Bridge, actions, and other speed tactics that will definitely enhance your work flow. Photographers who shoot a lot of pix will benefit most but there is much for everyone (except, maybe, those just beginning Photoshop who may be a bit bewildered). Recommended reading. I just wish the print on the screen shots was big enough that I didn't need a loupe to read it. rps

I was expecting a tutorial book with new ideas and findings, or at least improved short cut tutorials for the existing ones but the content was too elementary.
