It's encouraging that this is the #1 book on the topic of 9/11 in Amazon. It deserves to be. Not content with depicting the terrible events of 9/11, Wright brilliantly and logically draws out the origins of the nihilist religious movement that formed the ideological motor of 9/11. The roots of 9/11 are twofold: in the writings of Egyptian expatriate Sayyid Qutb, who ironically wrote his most inflammatory works while an academic guest in Colorado (some of Qutb's works form the Mein Kampf of Islamic extremism); and the toxic Wahhabi Muslim sect in Saudi Arabia. When you finish the chapters on these topics, you will thoroughly understand the repellent underpinnings of Saudi-specific culture, which in fact have very little to do with the humane face of Islam.

I remember when this story broke, and I couldn't believe that a large Satanic cult was in such proximity to where I lived. With each new announcement, the story got more and more strange, but was always portrayed in the news as absolute fact. Only much later did it fade from the news. This story exposes the true insanity of the case, and how easy it was for an entire country to fall prety to complete madness in what it would believe.

3.Chaplin starring: Robert Downey Jr., Geraldine Chaplin, Paul Rhys, John Thaw, Moira Kelly
directed by: Richard Attenborough

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : Chaplin
Attenborough's Chaplin offers a more politicalized perspective on this iconic star of American cinema. The film focuses on Chaplin's (played by Robert Downey Jr.) rise and fall in American film, culiminating in his exile from the United States after Hoover's relentless attempts to prove him a communist threat finally succeeded. Downey Jr. is really quite good as Chaplin, especially in the evolution of his English accent. (Although as the elderly Chaplin, he is a bit creepy). Anyone who is a tried and true fan of Chaplin, however, will find many details to criticize: his facial expressions aren't quite right, his physical movements don't quite capture the grace of Chaplin's. But, overall, it is a fine film, offering a fascinating glimpse of the personal and political life of perhaps the greatest film ... Read More

There are many great reviews on the content of this film, so I won't repeat them here. However, the one aspect of this film that made it one of the most frightening and one of the most memorable films for me was the science - in respect to people from the future trying to communicate with those in the present to warn them about the imminent arrival of Satan so they could change the future outcome. The technology in this future was limited, and could only come through as fractured messages and images during the dream state. I can imagine the frustration and desperation on the other end, as these technicians in the future try with the limited resources they have to make those in the present take action.

The image of Satan's silhouette in the church archway is one I will never get out of my head ... Read More

This is a unique book, a book that worth its weight in gold. All parents should read this book. All politicians and policy-makers should read this book. All school teachers should read this book. All social scientists should read this book. Why? Because this is the book that could end all debates on nature vs. nurture.

Identical twins are, in a sense, best gifts nature can give us to understand about ourselves especially if they were reared apart. This affords us to investigate whether environments and socioeconomic backgrounds, or the genetics have greater or major influence over our personalities, political and religious inclinations and so on.

This book mainly details studies done by Dr. Peter Neubauer (chapters 1 and 3 -- four sets of identical twins plus one set of identical triplets) and ... Read More

Who would have thought there was so much to learn about toilets and bathroom culture? This is a great primer for those who wonder just how people did bathe and perform 'ablutions' before the days of indoor plumbing and water-trapped toilets for all (or at least those of us in western countries). Written in 1960, it assumes a bit more familiarity than most of us have with English-style boilers and toilets, and more knowledge of history than the average high school graduate would have today. The language is a bit old-school, but in a descriptive fashion, and is never difficult to follow. It does contain several quotes in French and Latin without translations, but they are short, and not essential to the enjoyment of the book.

Clean & Decent is at its best when sharing tidbits and historical anecdotes (such ... Read More

Though it seems to have been well researched, this is not a scholarly work, at least not the usual kind. It is, rather, an informative, offbeat, and (at least to my mind) very funny account of humankind's efforts over the centuries to get a decent night's sleep. The arrangements, contraptions, and methods employed have been astonishingly varied and mostly unsatisfactory. Mr. Wright (a onetime R.A.F officer as I recall) is a graceful and witty writer, joining a somewhat Will Cuppy-ish sensibility to a smooth and civilized style. This has been for many years one of my favorite books (in the 1962 Routledge & Kegan Paul hardcover edition), and I'm delighted to see it back in print.

Judging by the cover of this book, which features numerous sprites from old 8 & 16-bit consoles, it's hard to tell what this has to do with character design or mobile devices. In actuality, "mobile devices" has more to do with old portable gaming systems than cell phones, (plus there's virtually no mention of PDAs or their content) and there's really no mention of any aspects of character design outside of compensating for any resolution or color limitations.

A more appropriate title might've been "Sprites: The Book" This book's purpose seems more geared towad pixel art in general and the mobile content angle was added because it's the platform where pixel art is still a technological necessity rather than an artistic choice.

But don't let all that dissuade you. Considering how little literature ... Read More

If you read in the reviews that this was one of the worst movies of Pam Anderson and of all time, don't believe it. I first saw it about 3 or 4 years after it's release and I saw it on cable. At that time I thought it was new until I saw the date at the end. I asked several people if they had ever heard of Barb Wire and all answers were no. Obviously when this movie came out it didn't get much advertisement. Pam Anderson doesn't play the dumb blode in this one. She's a woman in control with plenty of brains And brawn. If you like movies of the future and what happens after the Big War then you'll love this one and Pam. Her favorite saying in this movie is "Don't Call Me Babe" and watch out guys if you find a gal saying that to you. This movie should be rereleased and given the credit and advertisement it deserves and Pamela Anderson ... Read More
