A fast and gripping read, Nineteen Minutes is a good book for Book Clubs. It touches on a number of issues facing children today, including bullying, school violence, and physical abuse. Some of the book's characters are developed and flushed out so well, that readers will find themselves sympathic to those characters they never thought they would be. If your Book Club has fallen into a routine of stale discussions, Nineteen Minutes is sure to end the monotony.

This book was amazing i was sobing on the train to work after finishing it. I think it hit me soo hard because it remained me of my little sisters friend who passed away from Leukemia. This book is now my all time favorite. love it!!!!

Readers who are familiar with Dante's Inferno, will appreciate the rich symbolism and allegory here, but that background knowledge is not necessary to enjoy the story. Trixie Stone is 14-year-old high school freshman who is devastated when her hocky player boyfriend, Jason, breaks up with her. To get him back, she decides to try to make him jealous by flirting with other guys at a party. She gets drunk and plays some gross party games that I hope my students aren't stupid enough to play. She ends up accusing Jason of raping her, which he denies. From the prologue, I was immediately hooked. I felt so much compassion for June and the loss she suffered. So much so, that I couldn't stop thinking about it the next day. For me, this book is about redemption and finding a way to move forward despite past choices and facing each day knowing that someone is forever missing from your life.

If you are a new reader of Picoult I don't think this will be the book that hooks you. If you are searching to buy a Picoult book I would strongly suggest My Sister's Keeper. While The Pact was interesting at time I felt some aspects were a bit slow moving. Hope this helps.

When I started this book I was immediately drawn into the story. I initially thought this was going to be a very good read but not too long into it I began to see it's faults. The story was unbelievable the character of Nicholas needed a good kick in the behind in my opinion. He was way to controlling with the entire world centering on his life and his needs. I thought this should have been addressed. He seemed to get away with being a totally self-centered, selfish person and I don't feel like Jodi ever brought this up or made reference to how he needed to grow up and get real. I did appreciate Paige's growth but all in all, the book was way too long and I couldn't wait till it was over. In fact, I found myself trying to skip ahead to just get it over with. Even in the face of mounting evidence, Katie denies not only the murder, but also that she had a baby in the first place. Katie's story is intertwined with that of Ellie Hathaway, the hard-as-nails defense attorney who takes on Katie's case as a favor to her Aunt Leda. As in other Picoult novels, the topic is pulled from the headlines and much of the story centers around Katie's trial and the inevitable twist at the end. Well developed characters and a detailed and realistic peek into Amish life.

Jamie MacDonald's wife is dying from multiple cancers and is in a gerat deal of pain. She does not want to suffer anymore, but refuses to kill herself. Instead, she asks Jamie to kill her. Jamie honors maggie's wishes and then is overcome with grief and remorse. He confesses to her murder and is subsequently arrested and put on trial. This is one of Piccoult's best books. My only complaint was it was a little long, in my opinion. One thing's for certain about the author: you think you have an opinion on certain things in life and she challenges them!!

I picked this up to see what all the fuss was about Jodi Picoult. The story gripped me from the first page. I couldn't put it down and when I had to, I couldn't stop thinking about the characters and what was happening. I usually read two or three books at a time, but dropped everything else to finish this. A very good story, a very good read.
