What happened to the once hilariously funny Stephanie Plum? I can't describe how disappointed I am with Fearless Fourteen. I have looked forward to a new Plum novel every June for years and this book is not only not funny, it's totally tasteless. Grandma is not funny, Stephanie is totally apathetic, Joe is raunchy and Ranger is practically nonexistent. Lula has forced herself on Tank with a no one proposed to her engagement. There is really no mystery going on here. The side characters have thoughtless personas I am struggling to keep turning the pages and I don't think I don't feel motivated to finish this book. Oh, how I adore this series! Lots of laughs, Stephanie still gets herself into trouble in some way. Lots of colourful characters, old and new alike, and Grandma Mazur still knows how to make the reader laugh. Trying to figure out how Steph gets herself into these situations is still a great wonder, even though the reader gets it from A to Z. Ranger still turns her to mush as much as Morelli, and Morelli still has it in his head that Stephanie should be doing something other than bounty hunting. If only he could accept what is, and stop forcing the issue, I bet he and Stephanie could live happily ever after. I still like watching the banter between the triangle. This is typical Janet Evanovich. It is a quirky romance that has you laughing out loud. Not as good as the Stephanie Plum books but a great read.

ok so I got this book as a freebie and I love the Stephanie Plum series. The thing is: this takes familiar characters out of the realm of reality and gives them a whimsical twist. Not together unpleasant, but not the Sephanie Plum series I adore. The familiarity gives it something to bond to, but I was afraid it would detract from the series when I went back to it. It didn't and for this reason alone I am saying it was a good little read. Fortunately it is brief and easy to read. The between series is 'cute', but I still think overall it detracts from the main series. That being said I also bought the next one before I started the between series. I do not completely regret them, however I would not go out of my way to buy them either after having read them. The Series is another story..those are well worth the laughs.
