this is a good book that talks about what to expect month by month. It also covers what to expect at the doctors visit which is a good guideline. overall ... a good read.

I dislike this whole series of books. The author spends too much time making her beliefs sound like facts in some areas (like against co-sleeping and for "crying it out") and then pandering to both sides (like bottle feeders and breastfeeders) in other areas in an obvious attempt to sacrifice the best baby advice for coddling to readers who may not have gone the path that's best for baby and don't want to feel bad about it. The advice is more along the lines of my mother's generation than the current practices and research that is so much more baby-friendly. I like Dr. Sears' "The Baby Book" much better.

It is a very useful book that guides you through your baby's growth through toddler years.

It seems like every pregnancy, diet and health book advocates the exact same diet. Is this a conspiracy? Has this diet even been tested on lab rats? What is the research behind these guidelines? Let's review the books recommendations. Eat Lean Meats Eat lots of Grains Eat lots of fruits and veggies No Junk food - this is good advice except half the foods in the book, such as foods with processed flours, and soy are unhealthy (junk food). I was not thrilled when I found out I was pregnant at 21 but I was determined to make the best of it. I was terrified and knew nothing about what I should or shouldn't do while I was pregnant. The night I found out I was pregnant I bought this book and read it cover to cover over the next few days. For someone who knows NOTHING about pregnancy this was an excellent book and I clung to it daily to make sure I knew what to expect next. It really helped answer a lot of my questions and made me a little more confident. I even tried to follow the diet but that sort of didn't happen since you pretty much need to eat the things you WANT during pregancy otherwise you will be a nervous wreck. We have been thinking about starting a family soon. We are almost thirty and wanted to have some fun before we did. This journal includes everything that you may want to know about pregnancy. It keeps everything organized. I haven't used it yet so I cannot comment on how useful it may be.

Reading this book word for word to my 3 year old daughter would not have worked. We read the big question at the top of each page and answer the question ourselves using the pictures. I slip in different things from the text each time and she loves it. It has made her very excited about a event she had been growling about untill we started reading this book. She has even started "reading" it to her stuffed animals. I would suggest this book to anyone with a child, of any age who is expecting. Read it once yourself and you can decide how best to "read" it with your child.

My wife speaks English as a second language. I bought this book in English based on references from several friends who are first time child bearers. They spoke highly of it for good reason. It has everything you could ask for about childbirth in an easy to read format, plus the index allows you to hunt for items of interest without reading the entire book. I would recommend it to you regardless of the language you prefer.
