Excellent book, well researched and does a very good job of showing both sides. After reading some of the "anti" nuclear books you can tell that the science and research behind this book are head and shoulders above.

I would really love if this book was required reading for all our politicians and even high school students. We need the facts before we can make rational decisions. This book gives you the facts. After reading it you'll be left with one inescapable conclusion, nuclear power is the single best choice for power production in the world today.

Books : The Black Death
Gwyneth Cravens and John S. Marr, The Black Death (Dutton, 1977)

Mediocre disaster-of-the-week novel about (unsurprisingly) an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague in New York City. Relatively readable for a seventies thriller novel of its type, but the casual sexism and racism is far more shocking today than the actual subject matter. Still, if you're into the literary version of the disease-of-the-week TV movies of the seventies, there are certainly worse ways to pass the time than this. ** ½

Books : Heart's Desire
I found this book in a used book store several years ago and have been searching for other books by Gwyneth Cravens ever since. "Hearts Desire" takes place in New Mexico during the early 1960's. The main characters are women: a mother, a daughter, and a daughter-in-law who become involved as they go through death (of a father), the draft (of a brother), and desertion (of a husband and son). All three women tend to try and see things in the best possible light (despite reality) but gradually are forced through circumstances to see life as it is, and therefore be at peace with themselves and each other. Gwyneth Cravens portrays the Western landscape in words that make one feel as if one has already been there (I know because I read this book before I ever visited New Mexico).
