I was looking for a concise history of the Mayans and calendars and found it and more within the pages of this book. Finding a section in the back of the book that allows the reader to find the Mayan astrological birth signs was a nice surprise. This is a good source for students seeking research materials and anyone who finds the Mayans and calendars interesting.

If there is a better book on the subject I have yet to find it. That is not to say there are not other good books on the subject. Certainly there are. Most of those other books, however, seem to be a mix of fact, speculations and the author's personal opinions. Nothing wrong with that. But what impressed me about Stray's book is that it is so remarkably comprehensive in scope and seems to present no bias one way or another. Stray has not written this book as a tool to promote any particular agenda. It is a thoroughly well researched piece of work that covers just about every thought, idea, and theory that exists on this subject of the end-date of the Mayan calendar and what it might mean. He presents an in-depth look at each theory and provides a thoughtful and often insightful analysis of each one. Read More
