This book is the course book which is suggested by most of the Organic professors as an advanced organic chemistry book. This book also teaches you the basics of basis of organic chemistry.

This review is specifically meant to refer to the latest edition (5th ed.) of this book. The earlier editions were quite good, but the 5th edition completely misses the mark. Ordinarily, one would think that a book such as this would get better and better with each new edition. Not so with this book. For some reason, the 5th edition is loaded with mistakes.....many of these appear to be typesetting errors (e.g., atoms in the wrong place, pentavalent carbons, nonsense intermediates within reaction pathways, etc.). It is terribly disappointing. I do not know what happened at the publisher this time, but, in good conscience, they really should not have released this book the way it is. I'm not sure why Marvel puts out these "Ultimates Annuals" omnibus books, since all of these stories are already available in the regular individual Ultimates series. This one's okay -- it has a Captain America-Falcon team-up with a WWII Nazi tie-in, the FF trouncing Mole Man in a muddled epic, while Spidey's story is probably the best of the lot (but that's because "Ultimate Spider-Man" is the only Ultimate book that's really held up.) I really did not like this X-Men story, in which Nightcrawler is portrayed as a mentally broken creepo-stalker guy who is held in contempt by all the other X-dudes. Huh? What? Why? Oh, well. Whatever. Basically, this book has some okay reading in it, but you could also skip it and buy the individual titles instead.

Yes I used this book for 2 semesters of organic chem. The class wasn't fun but atleast this book was pretty good. It describes alot of the tough stuff in detail and has great summaries at the end of each chapter. It is worth the money and if you fail the class you sure cant blame it on this book. ALSO buy it used b/c the new one is much too expensive and turns out you may not like orgo that much anyway haha

I gave this book 3 stars simply because I cannot really compare it to any other organic book. The explanations inside, however, are put into simple terms and the problems are not overly excessive, and cover the basic lessons that each chapter tries to teach. For being my first organic chemistry book, I'd say that it is pretty swell!
