Ewan and Charley's adventure from northern Scotland to the southern tip of Africa reads much like two diaries being integrated for the book. Each author has his own voice. These generally are complementary, but they expose their own tensions and those of the trip as well. Their involvement in African charitable organizations and the emotions they invoke raise the book from a fairly straight narrative into bringing greater understanding and sympathy for the situations faced in most African countries. At one point, Charley takes the bungee jump from the Victoria Falls railway bridge (360 feet vertical drop). Ewan wonders a bit at Charley's bravado. Having been there and done that jump at age 62, I can appreciate both points of view. But if you are there, don't pass it up!

A really good trip that gets blown by putting this adventure in the hands of an amateur writer. While this is an overall good story with some great adventure, I found myself at times having to figure out what was going on because of a lack in the writers ability. I don't know if this is a result of poorly kept journals or the inability of the writer to fully take on the opportunity to embellish on this tale and turn it into the truly great adventure that I'm sure that it was.As a result, I feel that at least half the adventure gets lost by what is not written. Furthermore,to sum up the entire North American continent in the course of about 30 pages was an extreme disappointment. Having read "A Long way round" and "A Long way down" , this book is facinating to read and just another part of the story. Charley knows what a motorcycle rider wants to hear to makes sure you get it. If you liked either of the "Long Ways" you will love this book. I rate it above long Way Down and as good as Long Way Around. Buy it, you won't be disapointed
