I love a good story, characters I can care about, and being left with a feeling of wanting to know more. And there's something rebelious about vampires that adults can relate to; that they have forgotten exists after growing with responsibilty and practicality for so long. Vampires, and all matter of fierce monsters, make for a great story... one that is geared towards adults and entertainment purposes. I started reading these books years ago, and I always recommend them to my female friends whenever they ask me what they "should" read. Sookie is someone you want to be and someone you want to slap at the same time! She just never does what I would do, but, then again, there's only room for ONE Jason in the story. Funny, easy to read, and highly engrossing!

I'd not been impressed with the first book in this series; thought it was too derivative of the very early Anita Blake setup back when those books were good (which was the first two volumes). But I needed a book on CD for a longish road trip I was taking alone, and this seemed a passable possibility.

The book itself is more a wrap-up of a dozen or so plotlines that I suppose had been hanging in the series. One by one things come to a climax until all are dealt with (except for those cult guys who came to the bar) and just about everyone now owes Sookie favors/protection big time. If you were reading the book I'd imagine that it might not be too riveting because of the lack of a coherent plot, but for a car ride, it kept me interested the entire way like a strung-out soap opera. Good ... Read More

Wow, What can I say I truly enjoy this seris and can't wait to read the whole Sookie Stackhouse Novels. Well written can really see the story within your head.I just wished I would have found these books sooner. Fantastic mix of romance, horror, humourous and playfulness. I just completed the second book of this series. It wasn't nearly as good as the first book, but it was still entertaining. The mystery aspect of this novel is just as good. I got sucked into the book as soon as she met the vampires in Dallas. The whole aspect of the Fellowship of The Sun is very interesting.

The novel started to bother me when it began to dive into the taboo.. what in the world is a Maenad? The fact that the novel starts to address such areas as homosexuality, group sex parties, etc. really was perhaps on the extreme side. Charlaine may have gone a bit too far on this one. Hopefully the Taboo and orgies get tuned down in the next books because it distracts from the story and Sookie's character.

It's all been said so I'm just offering my opinion. Eric is my favorite character so getting to have lots of Eric in one book is all good to me and makes this my favorite book of the series!

I enjoyed the first two books as the series are easy reads. Romance and adventure, what more can a person want reading vampire novels! But, the third book was disappointing. While I did not expect Sookie's and Bill's relationship to last forever, there is nothing written during the story line to build up that Bill was summoned or decided to stray (whatever his reasoning is). He just abruptly left early in the third book, which is the turn in the opposite direction from the ending of book 2. Boo. Hiss.
The second thing that annoyed me was how Sookie and Eric and Bubba were able to have major discussions in the enemy's house. Vampires supposedly have super heightened hearing abilities. You don't think that the vampires in the house would be able to hear the discussion that they had? They ... Read More

I liked a lot of things about this book but it has created some bad feelings toward Sookie for me. Up to this point, I've mostly enjoyed her character and have loved the books. But I won't abandon the series. I'm just hoping for some character improvement for Sookie with Book 9.

Although I think this book was better than book 3, I thought the lack of main plot made the book reading messy. As much as Sookie is beginning to get a backbone with her character, it seems as she really doesn't have control of her daily activities which is a bit disappointing. She accepts invitations that lead to her getting in messy situations, all the while complaining about it. I think most of the side characters were not deep enough for us to warrant any care for. I do like book 1,2, and 4 better.
One thing I have to say I did like was Bill's stay with Sookie in the hospital. I thought Harris threw away their relationship all to swiftly after she wrote about it for two books. Even though they may be moving on with their lives, I do not believe that they would just forget about each other so quickly.

This book turned out to be one of my favorites of the stackhouse series. There is action x2 so it really gives you alot to read. You really just want to kick Bill in the butt but I will not spoil it but is a must read..
Lots of things come into play with this book and things are making more sense.
