As far as thrillers go this was very good. The characters were deep and enthralling, keeping your interest all the way through. There was enough suspense to keep you turning the pages, and plenty of action. If you enjoy Lee Child`s Jack Reacher books then this will please you. I`m a series fan and enjoy Child and Michael Connelly books immensely, if you like that kind of thriller read the `Soft Target` books by Conrad Jones. They are unputdownable!! Back to the review, ten out of ten.

i've read all of brad thor's books, and the first commandment is the best of the lot, so far! i've read a few flynn thrillers, and although i find them entertaining and such, i prefer thor's books.
i like his writing, plus i find "scot harvath" a more interesting characater than "mitch rapp" but that's just my opinion,
that being said, i highly recommend this book if you like action with a political slant.

I've read the preceeding books in Brad Thor's Scot Harvath series. They usually read like they were meant to be easily adapted to silly Hollywood action films--except they are too patriotic to be made by Hollywood. And if I have to read about Scot Harvath's rugged good looks and muscular 5'10" frame, with sandy brown hair and piercing blue eyes one more time I'm going to barf. Enjoyable for a fun read, but not really too believable.

State of The Union was much better. Scot even began to feel run down and tired, rather than superhuman like usual. I really liked the plot twists and turns and the insight into Russian culture and current events. It kept me hooked and guessing. Good stuff. The next one, Blowback, not so much. Kind of ridiculous and a little tedious. But I did enjoy State of the Union. ... Read More

Blowback is the 4th book in Brad Thor's thriller series featuring Scott Harvath. This is a fun book to read with the fast pacing for which the author has come to be known. Blowback features numerous exotic locations; from Switzerland to Saudi Arabia, counter-intelligence specialist Harvath must race against the clock to try to once again save America. Adding intrigue to the story are the historical elements involving the Ottoman Empire and Hannibals trek across the Alps.

The book features an ambitions female senator who desires to take down President Rutledge - a recurring character - by using an international incident from the Middle East involving Harvath.

There is no doubt that the imagination must be stretched a bit sometimes when reading one or all of the novels in this series. ... Read More

This has been one of the most disappointing adventures in reading that I can remember. Normally I would not bother to write a review, but this book was such a downer that a comment was needed. Why the author felt that any American would want to see our guys be out smarted, maneuvered and gunned by Muslim terrorists is beyond me. To my dismay I actually read to the end in hopes that some uplifting thing might happen. Only to have it jerked away on the last page.

Do not pass this book up.

I do agree with another reviewer that the protagonist is somewhat too good to be true. It is easy to get past that. The plot is clever, and the villains were well developed. The action is great. I can't wait to read another Thor.

The writing is absolutely terrible. The dialogue is fit for a children's novel. I found myself almost ashamed to be reading something so juvenile. However, the story was pretty good and that is the ONLY thing that kept me going. My biggest disapointment is that his characters are a complete copy of the Vince Flynn characters. Scot Harvath is a very annoying and juvenile version of Flynn's Mitch Rapp character. So much so that even his love interest is a physically violated, daughter of an ex-cop, beautiful woman from Chicago. Come on! This is a total rip off on Ana Riley in the Flynn novels.

Even the character's professional progression follows the Flynn story line. The main difference, of course, is that Vince Flynn can actually write believeable, semi-mature dialogue. If you want a thriller of this ... Read More
