This book is geared towards the beginning drummer. Instructions are clear and lessons well written, and it includes a CD for audio learners. If you can't learn to drum with this handbook, give up! It's well worth the purchase price.

As a new law student, I was really intimidated by the Bluebook. But I gotta tell you, after getting the "The User's Guide to Bluebook" three months after law school, I am really starting to feel that I have been tricked out of my money. It is nothing more than 15 sheets stapled together and as one of the reviewers said before me "this book is truely for the bluebook clueless." If you have even the slightest clue of how to use the bluebook, forget this waste of money. But I have to admit, we did spend 15 minutes in class on it, so if you didn't get that much in class, then it might be a good idea.

A concise, effective book that provides all the basics for building a good oral argument. The advice is practical and presented in a succinct little book that can be read in one sitting. Although it lacks material on the academic aspects of oral argument, it is full of practical advice and great ideas for presenting effectively. Well worth the time and money!

This is exactly what I was looking for to take me to the next level. Some guys at work and I have been playing Djembe at lunch for a couple of years. We wanted new beats and to expand on what we have been doing. This book and CD set is taking us there in a naturally progressing manner. The book is easy to follow and the play along CD allows us to master what the book teaches. The authors have another book & CD set called "HOW TO PLAY DJEMBE" which teaches, in the same easy way, traditional West African Rythms. We love it too. We are greatful to the authors and Amazon for these two great tools. They are fun to use and are helping us to grow faster and further than we expected!

I absolutely love this book. I agree with another reviewer who suggested that it for all musicians and not specifically for drummers; to me (a non-drummer), this is a virtue. The book does not discuss drum technique at all; rather it helps you explore two "timelines" - a clave pattern in four, and a pattern in six. All you need are way to play the included CD and something to make sound with - an instrument, your voice, a drum, or a tabletop. I don't know any other music instruction book that strikes such a perfect balance of simplicity and richness.

Legal research and writing texts tend to be lame and of little help. (As best as I can tell, learning to research and write well is something you pretty much have to get from trial and error.) This book, however, is well within the tradition of Elements of Style. It's easy-to-read, light, and practical.

I came across this book at the public library, and I have been incredibly pleased so far! The book delivers on its promise to "get to the fun stuff" quickly, while still providing very relevant and usable concepts and exercises. Twenty-three different world music patterns are included and all of them, as advertised, are a pleasure to play. There are also two (2) CDs included - one with the patterns, another with timelines that you can use to play the patterns on top of. The quality of the text and illustrations is really high. Even though I found it at the library I'm going to end up buying this one (and possibly others advertised from the same company in the back) because I've found it invaluable and enjoyable.
