I enjoyed this book. I learned more from the book than I thought I would. If there is room in a Christmas stocking for a book make it this one. I hope he writes a follow up, it would be interesting to see how many of the changes he made permanent. I will be checking to see what he writes next.

A.J. Jacobs works as the editor at large at Esquire magazine and has carved his personal niche at becoming what he calls "a human guinea pig." I would love to be present during one of his brainstorm sessions ("Maybe I could do this!," "Has anyone ever tried that?"). It might have been after consuming several caffeinated drinks that he thought of the premise for The Know It-All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World. Finally, Marvel is putting together these exhaustive handbooks in hard cover form. If you are a big Marvel fan you absolutely have to have these reference books. Also, finally, there are biographies for Marvel Golden Age characters which is very nice. If you collected the Official Marvel Handbooks from the 1980s-1990s and enjoyed them then these updated versions are a MUST have. The matching spines and similar covers look good on the book shelf and the back covers give a list of all the biographies inside. Pretty much perfect for what it is.

When buying this book I was assured that it was brand new and in mint condition. I even paid more to have a book in good condition. When it came in the mail there were pages torn out of the book and important pictures and text missing.

It is always exciting to read more about the teachings of Jesus, however, if you refuse to read any translation besides the KJV then some of the translations in this book will disturb you. This is not a comprehensive collection of the sayings of Jesus. Instead, this is a compilation of selected verses from Matthew and Luke in the Bible. The translation of The Lord's Prayer is especially suspect. Instead of "Give us this day our daily bread," the authors translate it: "Grant us the food we need for each day." The entire "lead us not into temptation" is conveniently left out as is about half of the prayer. Instead of talking about the "Kingdom of God," the authors translate it "Realm of God." Any reputable publisher should have rejected such stuff -- unless one has connections ("the network"?). Further, the book's typeface is annoying. In sum, the book should have been a vacuum cleaner! I'm glad to note, however, that when Jacobs deals with his own actual experiences, as in The Know It All and The Year of Living Biblically, he excels. He does not do so in writing fiction.
