Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best publication for cat owners
I've subscribed to Catnip for over 5 years now, and have been very satisfied with the overall quality of the writing. Until recently I also subscribed to Cat Fancy and Catwatch. Cat Fancy had little to no useful information - in general it appeared to be more of a platform for cat breeders to advertise in. Catwatch was a tougher call - it is published by the Cornell School of Veterinary Medicine, much like Catnip (which is published by the folks at Tufts University). However, over the years I've found the Catwatch articles to be far too vague and generalized to be of much use. In addition, I noticed a few factual errors about health issues. What was really disappointing was then when I emailed them about one of the errors, I didn't get any kind of response from the editor.

Catnip, on the other hand, always has useful and reliable information. Its editor, Arden Moore, seems to run a tight ship there. One of the best aspects of Catnip, as stated by previous reviewers, is their monthly review of cat products. They have a group of cats who help test all sorts of products, ranging from cat litter to toys to cat furniture. This is great for cat owners, and has led to my finding out about products I had never heard about before (such as the Scratch Lounge, which my cats love). All in all, an excellent publication and the only one I've continued to subscribe to.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent source of up to date info for your cat
I've been a subscriber of Catnip for several years now. I originally found it in my vets office and read about the exact problem I had brought my cat in for that day. It was a something that wasn't common and after a discussion with my vet, she put my cat on the recommended therapy right away. My cat has hypesthesia and was nearly immobilized by it. My cat is doing very well now and I thank Catnip and my vet for her great care.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great information about cats
I've subscribed to "Catnip" for about 5 years now. It contains interesting and helpful information on caring for your cat and delivers the information in an intelligent, straightforward manner. And it doesn't have ads and "fluff" articles like some of those glossy cat magazines out there. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Catnip gets 4 Paws Up
As a former Cat Fancy reader, I find Catnip to be far superior to Cat Fancy Magazine as it contains more in depth information on cat issues as it is coming from the Tufts University veterinary section. Also, it does not contain all the advertisments and breeder advertisements that I found myself paying for in the Cat Fancy Magazine. So what you are paying for in Catnip is more thorough and factual information on cats without all the advertisements. It's a great publication and I highly recommend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Differences compared to CATWATCH
Catnip magazine is a good newsletter-type magazine for the general cat-owner. It is a step up from something like "Cat Fancy", in that it has items that relate more to the common cat owner. It has articles on different aspects of cats, such as behaviors, general care-taking, and medical issues. It is written in a very easy-to-understand language. If you are looking for something to help you learn more about cats, and are not in the veterinary field, then this is a good newsletter/magazine to get.
If, however, you are in the veterinary field - working in a vet office, shelter, studying to be a vet, etc., - then I would suggest you look into the Cornell Feline Health's newsletter/magazine CATWATCH. It deals more with medical and behavioral issues, and does not deal quite so much with general ownership issues.
Overall, though, Catnip is a good newsletter to have. I get both, actually - Catnip and CATWATCH.
