Great product. I love being able to pick it up & read whatever & whenever I want. Viewing is great with the ability to change print size as my eyes change. Downloading is near instantaneous. Prices are a bit high & original cost is high, but worth it. Perhaps the prices will drop as more users become available.

Rating: - A traveller's gift
As someone who travels a great deal and always carries several books, the Kindle is a special gift. No longer do I have to carry heavy books, but can carry many different ones on my Kindle. I now tend to read several at a time. And I love the feature of downloading samples from books to learn whether I want to read further and then downloading entire books within minutes. And when I accidentally dropped it and its screen no longer functioned, it was immediately replaced without charge by Amazon with the most helpful service imaginable. I couldn't ask for more. The Kindle is no longer a luxury for me, it is a necessity.

Absolutely the most marvelous thing ever...Purchased it for my husband who is an avid reader and he is so thrilled he hardly puts it down and is always looking and selecting the next choice for his reading pleasure...Thankyou so much as finding the right gift for a very avid reader could not be easier and I highly recommend it for all readers,cooks and enthuasists of the written word and even great for cookbooks and recipes....Kudos Amazon.....

Rating: - Whats not to love?
I love this product--never thought I would like an electronic book--the feel of a book in your hand blah,blah ec--. but now don't know how I did without it. Easy to read--who cares about the switch ? how often do you use it? light and so portable and you have an entire bookstore at your fingertps !! My husband got hooked on mine so I had to buy him one too and now my son wants one --the gals at work who read are jealous. Thanks Amazon for a great product--its a little too perfect for the book-a-holic-Too easy to go shopping and download another book. Carole

Pros and Cons for the Kindle

Pros: Easy to read; you quickly forget the mechanics and concentrate on the read. Navigating and menus are fairly intuitive and easy to learn. Whispernet does work, but slow if the search of the Amazon website is too broad. Cover works better than some reviewers suggested--the key is raising the small plastic tab so it catches the indention on the back of the device. The broad range of recently published books is a pleasant surprise.

Cons: Whispernet tells you it cannot connect if the search parameters are too broad. Overall reliability of Whispernet must be greatly improved. Pagination in a Kindle book varies by size of the text, so you cannot cite page information from a Kindle book in a research paper. Some Kindle books lack footnotes, or they are abbreviated--again do not use Kindle editions for scholarly papers.

Overall: A good product if you plan to use it for personal use in reading fiction, nonfiction, or books you do not intend for research. Use it for books you might read once, and to store books you read and might want to read again at some point in the future.
