: Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device

I love the tactile experience of a book - the feel, the scent and how a great book evokes specific memories as to where you were when it was being read. So I had no time for the Kindle when it came out. I'm a gadget-girl, so many of my friends asked me and spoke to me about it, but I wasn't interested. I'm a book collector (w/the 5 overstocked bookcases to prove it!).

This all changed while taking my first vacation in 5 years. At the pool I saw this young woman with her Kindle and we started talking (she was actually the first woman I ever saw w/the Kindle - all the rest have been men!). Her enthusiasm really won me over, then when I held it I was convinced. I ordered one as soon as I got home.

The whole Kindle experience has been fantastic - I started buying books before it even arrived and they were there when I opened the package (and the packaging! Beautiful - it's like opening a beautiful book in itself). I find that I'm reading more than ever - in fact I've been up the last 2 days until 3am and haven't noticed the time.

I'm enjoying my experience so much I'm buying two for my best friends as birthday presents. And I haven't missed the weight of an actual bok - I'm sure at some point I will - just not yet.

(Last thing - I love that the old Hitchcock and Ellery Queen magazines are Kindle-ized! Loved them when I was a kid - so much fun!)

Rating: - Kindle Hardware Needs Tweaking
Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device Overall, I really like the Kindle. However, there are a few things that drive me crazy. The Next Page & Prev Page tabs should be on BOTH sides of the Kindle and should be the same size. I frequently need to use the right hand or the left hand by itself (arthritis causes one or both hands to be of limited use on any particular day). I also tend to hit Prev Page instead of Next Page with the left hand because the Next Page tab doesn't go high enough & I have to adjust my grip down to reach it, which slows me down (I'm a fast reader). It also needs more room at the top left & right to be able to hold it without hitting either tab. There also needs to be a better way to keep the Kindle in its cover; it's always slipping out. The Customer Service Reps are outstanding! Hopefully more publishers will make Kindle versions available as soon as their hard copies. I want a book on its publicized release date so I don't have to remember to keep checking.

Rating: - Love it, Love IT, LOVE IT!
I had gotten away from reading books until I got this little beauty back in May. I have light sensitive eyes but have not had one instance of eye fatigue from reading the screen on my Kindle. The only real cons would be the battery life and the fact that the screen redraws can be slow, but that's something that you can adapt to very quickly. Downloads are quick and painless as is sending PDFs to your Kindle. I've read more books since I purchased my Kindle than the last 2 years combined.

On top of that, while on vacation in July I unfortunately dropped my Kindle on it's corner and shattered the screen. A quick call to customer support and a new one was on its way next day air and waiting for me when I got home, no questions asked. I couldn't be happier with my Kindle.

My Uncle was using his Kindle on cruise. After a quick tutorial I decided enough paper books for me. Going to buy the book- reading it- and then finding a bookshelf (which were already overloaded) was enough to convince me. It's easy to use- love the wireless feature. Just click and your new selection is in the Kindle. No fuss/ No muss.This Kindle is a must buy for yourself or as a holiday gift. Easy to use for us baby boomers who may or may not be too gifted when it comes to using the new technologies. Just wish every published book was available on Kindle. Soon enough I'm sure. If you're a reader - this is a sure thing to purchase.
