: Kindle: Amazon's Wireless Reading Device

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I'm going to miss books....
I received my first Kindle as a gift almost a year ago. I bought this one so I could get mine away from my 12 year old daughter. We both love our Kindles. I honestly cannot say enough positive things about it. I am actually disappointed when a title is not available in a format I can read on my Kindle. I used to manage a bookstore, and I got out when I saw that the internet was going to take the place of most brick and mortar stores. I now believe that devices like the Kindle will eventually replace the printed book/magazine/newspaper. Its just too convenient to have your entire library, plus reference materials, plus periodicals and newspapers, plus limited internet access, plus music and audio books....all conveniently at your fingertips all the time.

If you are considering buying a Kindle --- do it. You will not be sorry. If the price makes you hesitate...if you are a reader, you will find that between the discounted price of Kindle titles on Amazon.com when compared to the printed version, and all of the free public-domain titles available online---it more than pays for itself in no time at all.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic!
I love to read and I love books, especially collecting hard back books. But my wife said NO MORE! There is just no more room.So she surprised me with the Kindle. It blew me away.Instant books. One of my favorite past times is to go to the bookstore, now a 180,000+ bookstore is instantly at my fingertips.Half the time I'm checking out new titles.Downloads are simple and fast. The controls are easy and intuitive.I give Amazon 5 stars.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Lots of Good Stuff But My Hands Are Killing Me
Love the ability to order a book and have it immediately available. The wireless service has been great, no problems at all. Battery life is good. And I find it very intuitive. I am a big fan except....

I read a lot, for long stretches at a time, and I've had to put my kindle away for a while. My hands developed painful cramps. I actually booked a hand massage to try and work out some of the kinks. I've never had problems with my hands before, but the Kindle hasn't been kind to them.

That's my biggest grievance and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to overcome it.

My other gripes are smaller: I wish the screen could be lit. I wish you could delete a sample chapter without having to go to a separate area. I wish you could put books in folders and/or tag them. In the Kindle Store, I wish you could access "what's new" by category of books. I use this a lot on the website and miss it on the Kindle.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - impressive
Kindle: Amazon's Wireless Reading Device

Kindle is the best eBook reader on the market because of it's compact size, long battery life, and the extensive number of books that are available for download.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I could only be happier if the books were free
I've been watching the Kindle for quite some time and ranged in opinion between "It's not quite ready for prime time" (publicly) to "I want one so badly I could cry" (privately). OK, I've been pretty craven about it. I even had the opportunity to play with one at a Starbucks where a user I didn't know generously handed me his Kindle while he checked email and let me read a few chapters of a book he thought I might be interested in. What a great guy, by the way! Thanks!

I loved it. He explained how to get the most out of a Kindle and where some of the quirks were, which, he pointed out, were pretty minimal.

Months passed as I worked to finish my Master's degree while maintaining my company (I'm the managing director of a consultancy), staying married, working to keep fit and healthy and dreaming of blissful sleep (which I came to believe was only practice for being dead).

Monday, while on a family vaycay after having finished the biz degree (with highest honors), my family presented me with my own Kindle. And I haven't put it down since. I can browse the internet and read blogs or magazines--those that are optimized for the Kindle as well as those that are not. I can buy books after having read reviews and even peruse sample chapters. I can create watch lists to keep track of books I want to eventually get.

Here's an example of how I've used my Kindle. I get the Sunday NY Times and love the Book Review. After a book piqued my interest, I went to my trusty Kindle to get more information, read the rewiews and get a sample chapter. Then, I saved that book for later so I could get back to it (pretending, as I was, that I had a shred of self-control, which is quickly evaporating).

The only problem I can see is that I'll quickly go broke buying books. Kindle even has a "get out of jail free card" which allows me to deal with my buyer's remorse. I can return book files unopened if I realize I've lost all control.

Now, off the experiment with the MP3 player functions.
