Music : Chant

Rating: - PEACE FROM WITHIN
I can't understand most of the latin words in these chants but the spirituality, harmony and the "music" in the monks' voices are refreshing to the soul. I know that several monks sing but you basically hear one voice. I would suggest that a pocket size book with the translation of each chant should accompany each CD.

Rating: - One of the WORST chant recordings EVER !
Let me state that I am a big fan of religious chant..Many fine choirs have,over the years,contributed to this repetoire,and it is a very soothing and often spiritually up-lifting experience..This said,let me now say that this series,by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo De Silos,is among the worst example of this fine tradition..Not that the monks themselves can't hold a tune..No..nothing like that..They sing quite well in fact..IT IS,INSTEAD,THE UTTER CHEAPJACK NATURE OF THE RECORDINGS THEMSELVES THAT DEVALUES THIS SERIES...All of the coughing,the throat-clearing,and what may be someone moving furniture in the backround goes a long way towards making these recordings intolerable to listen to...especially the coughing...usually one does not purchase a professionally made recording only to be confronted with such human flaws as coughing or throat-clearing...usually these imperfections are edited out before the recordings themselves are released to the public..BUT NOT ON THESE RECORDINGS !...indeed,these recordings set a record for the number and frequentcy of coughs and throat-clearings to be heard..While some may overlook these lapses I cannot..if I wanted amateur-hour chanting I can always attend mass at the local church,where I not only can hear coughing and throat-clearing,but babies crying,cell-phones jingling,people burping and farting and any number of other distracting sounds along with the singing...BUT I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THEM WHEN I BUY A PROFESSIONALLY-MADE RECORDING...

Rating: - Gregorian Chant
I purchased this item because one of my children has been going through the Tomatis method of auditory integration training to correct some auditory processing issues that affect his ability to communicate. The Gregorian Chant was recommended as a follow up because of its many and pure sound frequencies. After listening to different samples of the Chant, I picked the one sung by the Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos for its sound clarity. Also, it has been interesting to see the reaction of all my children. Two of them weep when they listen to the chant and the other one seems be soothed by it. As an adult, it is this soothing effect from the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos that I find most fascinating.

Rating: - The Benedictine Monks changed my life!!!
Upon first hearing this compact disc, I was struck by its purity and unfathomabilty. Such brilliance! Such peace, the likes of which has never entered my soul! It was like a gift...a sunrise, if you will. (I will.) It inspired me to change my name to Benedictine. My dear friend, Gregoria wrote about the music of these unmarred souls in her personal statement and was accepted into Harvard. I truly believe in the power of Chant- as well as in Chant 2 and Chant 3... Buy this cd or you shall be destined to perish in a tragic tumult of stampeding heathens. Let the Benedictine monks save you, as their harmonious wisdom has such saved me.

EXCELLENT FOR RELAXING, MEDITATION, OR INTROSPECTION. WHEN I HAVE HAD A BAD DAY, I POP THIS IN ON MY WAY HOME FOR RELAXATION.
