Books : Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2009

Search Books - select a category

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best reference for studying for PANCE and PANRE
This is a great professional reference for everyday practice for all clinicians. I used it also for supplementation in my studies for the PANRE and just found-out the I passed with great results today. It is more simply worded than Harrison's and still comprises all necessary components of disease processes and criticals of diagnosis, etc....

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An affordable and compact alternative
Although not fancy by any means, the Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment (CMDT) is a fantastic portable referance for primary care providers. It is easy to use and read with various invaluable tables and charts. For the price, the CMDT is a great first choice. The CMDT is considered the Physician Assistants' and Nurse Practitioners' "bible" for passing certification exams.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - not a good book on medicine.
I bought this book with the hope of finding a good upto date review of medicine. it fell far short from this. The book is VERY dense with no diagrams pictures or histology. The heamatology pictures are in one corner along with other pictures of rheumatology and infectious diseases, and not with the relevant chapters. I have read the cardiology section of the book, and i just saw one paragragh on CRT, the antiarrthymic drugs are bunched up together, with no drug-drug interaction, no mention of metabolism and there are no pros and cons of using each drug in a particular situation/condition,and there is no mention of how to follow up patients with a particular condition. There is also no mention of levosimendan in heart failure, GP2b/3a etc. Let there be more flow charts and pictorial representation(the latter point being well illustrated in kumar and clark and davidson). i hope the authors will realize this and they will put more flesh to the bones. kindly please include ECG and echo pictures so as to not only enhance the book, but i think no cardiology section can be written without the same. I am also not quite sure what are the chapters of OBG/GYN and physciatry their for, along with with cost price of drugs being included {sheer waste of valuable space} for this book is NOT SUPPOSED to be doing the job of BNF or tarsons. Since it seems the book is directed at the medics and certainly the docs from the above mentioned speciality are not going to use this as their reference book. LET THIS BOOK BE PLEASE BE DIRECTED TO THE NEEDS OF ONLY ONE SUBSET OF THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY ie INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENTS/ PHYSICIANS, for otherwise it looses its sense of purpose and its true potential at becoming AN OUTSTANDING TEXT OF ITS TIME.
