One of the lesser holiday movies, this 1949 comedy stars Janet Leigh as a war widow who can't afford to buy her son a toy train for Christmas. A veteran (Robert Mitchum) who happens to be standing by in a department store overhears her plight and offers to purchase the toy, thus setting into motion a series of funny complications. Wendell Corey plays Leigh's suspicious, condescending boyfriend, whose jealousy compounds Mitchum's problems, and Harry Morgan is very good as a night-court judge trying to make sense of everything that happens. The movie didn't do so well at the box office at the time of its release, but it has gained an affectionate fan base over the years. Don't expect Miracle on 34th Street, but as a spirited lark for Yuletide, this is a lot of fun. --Tom Keogh

Holiday Affair is a gem -- hardly ever broadcast on television, though for the life of me I don't know why not.
It's sweet without being saccharine and a terrific old black-and-white film to watch with popcorn and your C7 Christmas-lit tree in the background...

I purchased this movie for my father for Christmas. He has always loved this movie and has been waiting for it to be released in color. Amazon states it's in color but BE AWARE!!! it's the original recording in black in white. I still gave it 4 stars because its a great holiday movie for the family.

I first saw Holiday Affair more than 30 years ago, in pre-cable days, as a late-late-late show movie. I've had it on VHS for years, but it's been unavailable on DVD until now. Watching Holiday Affair has become a Christmas tradition in my home, and I'm very pleased to see it released at last on DVD. If you've never seen this little gem, you're in for a pleasant surprise!

Set in New York in the aftermath of World War II, Robert Mitchum is at his manly, take-charge best as a recently-discharged soldier trying to make his career dreams come true. Janet Leigh is beautiful, vulnerable, and very appealing as a young war widow, with a little boy to support, who is being courted by a successful attorney (Wendell Corey) she likes but doesn't love.

- Fantastic Christmas Movie..!!
There have been several movies released under the title of "Holiday Affair". Since Amazon has not listed the stars of this movie I can assume (hopefully) that this is the 1949 version starring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh with Wendell Cory as the boyfriend. If it is then this is a 9 out of 10 star movie and I highly recommend it as a Christmas movie.
Mitchum has been discharged from the Army after serving in WW2. He takes a job as a toy salesman in a department store to raise enough money for train fare to Calif. where he plans to build boats. He meets Leigh who is employed as a comparison shopper for another store. She has a son about 6 years old and is engaged to Wendell Cory. Problems arise and Mitchum is fired from his job.
