Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Ashton's debut album, Sounds So Good, is scheduled for a March 4, 2008 release. The album features the lead single, "Takin' Off This Pain". She also made a video for the song, which was premiered in December of 2007 on CMT and GAC.

Amazon.com:
Ashton Shepherd arrives at Sounds So Good, her memorable 2008 debut, with a long line of remarkable women to thank, starting with the feisty Loretta Lynn and leading all the way up to country’s current wild child, Miranda Lambert. A deep-dish Alabaman (she says “pitcher” for “picture”) Shepherd is a good ol’ gal who knows what she likes (in this case, a pint of Crown and hard country music), and more importantly what she won’t stand for. If Lynn always stopped short of leaving her philandering husband, Shepherd, Loretta’s spiritual granddaughter and already “old” at 21, packs her bags, “Takin’ Off This Pain” with her wedding ring. In essence, as producer Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney) helps frame her, Shepherd is every pent-up housewife and mother with a 100-proof wild streak, minus Lambert’s wounded danger. But as the writer or co-writer of nearly every song, she also knows her way around a big romantic ballad (“Lost in You”), and a Dolly-esque dying child weeper (“How Big Are Angel Wings”). Vocally, Shepherd recalls Sara Evans’ nasality in the mid-tempo title track, and the Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines in too many places to count, even as her hard-bitten accent and pedal steel filigree keep her from blurring those artists’ stylistic lines. Bottom line: Watch for Shepherd to follow Gretchen Wilson in restoring the chick to redneck pride. -– Alanna Nash

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Sounds so good! Yeh!
I saw Ashton on the CMT Awards show and immediately wanted to hear more. Unfortunately she is getting very little airplay. Call your local stations folks! I listened to samples and watched lots of video on YouTube. I asked for the album for Christmas and can't stop playing it, very loudly most times. "C'mon now, turn it up" as Ashton sings. This is country music at its roots. This woman has lived, not like the other youngsters out there. She has a husband and a baby she has to leave behind to tour. Her subjects are so much more mature than teen angst. In addition to Takin' Off This Pain and Sounds So Good, we need to hear I Ain't Dead Yet, Old Memory, The Pickin' Shed, Regular Joe, Angel Wings and Whiskey Won the Battle ON THE RADIO! I love her voice and songs!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - She's a really cool chic with an incredible voice!
This CD is absolutely amazing! This is genuinely Country music. Her voice is one-of-a-kind and she stuns, in my opinion, on Old Memory. Other standout tracks are Takin' Off This Pain, Sounds So Good and Lost In You. Make no mistake, this is no pop-Country album! She has a very soulful and powerful voice coupled with absolutely amazing tracks.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - REAL country, from a hillbilly hottie!
there isn't a bad song on this album! her voice is so unique and genuine. it is quite refreshing to hear something other than cookie cutter, breathy teenagers (ie: taylor swift, carrie underwood, miranda lambert etc.). at first i thought her vocalizations were over the top, but then i watched an interview with her. that is just how she talks; she is just really in touch with her inner southerner!

ashton shepherd is the singer gretchen wilson wishes she was! lol

if you like genuine, drinkin', fightin', lovin', leavin, tear in your beer country, BUY THIS ALBUM! if you're looking for vegan, pop inspired, faux country, buy something else.

peace out.

john

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ashton's Superb!
This debut album for Ashton Shepherd is amazing. Her voice is strong, unique, and beautiful.
If you enjoy strong, solid country music you will find yourself loving this cd. I highly recommend this to all country or non country fans.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ashton Shepard is REAL Country
Ashton Shepard is REAL country, not that fluffed-up pop stuff like the insipid Taylor Swift. Her songs remind me of older Loretta Lynn works, particularly the stories. "I know my obligations, and believe me, they're met - but I ain't dead yet" is classic. She's almost a throw-back to when country music talked about everyday, hard-time life instead of the annoying jingoist, fake-evangelist Toby Keith garbage.

Buy Ashton Shepard - she'll be on the top of your playlist from the first song!
