Striking a balance between raunch and sweetness is a tall order for any film, but the Judd Apatow-produced Superbad manages to serve up both in equal and satisfying portions without undercutting a consistent stream of laugh-out-loud performances and gags. Michael Cera (the sublime George Michael Bluth from Arrested Development) and unstoppable scene-stealer Jonah Hill (Apatow's Knocked Up) are lifelong pals who attempt to make up for years of obscurity by getting into one blowout party before parting ways for college; an opportunity presents itself in the form of Hill's crush, the lovely Jules (Emma Stone), who wants the boys to bring liquor to her shindig. What follows is a combination road adventure and coming of age story as Cera and Hill tackle crazed partygoers, a pair of overeager cops (played by co-scripter and producer Seth Rogen and Saturday Night Live 's Bill Hader), and the hard truth about girls and their own emotional bond. The humor is crass and occasionally gross but never mean-spirited, and Cera and Hill offer believable performances as guys wholly unaware of their own potential, yet ready to risk humiliation in order to find out. They're well supported by a cast of Apatow regulars, including Kevin Corrigan, Martin Starr, David Krumholtz, and Carla Gallo (and Stone and Martha MacIsaac are terrific as their love interests), but the film is completely shoplifted by newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse as their uber-nerdy pal Fogell, whose fake ID handle is among the movie's funniest gags. Classic funk fans should also keep an ear out for the score by Lyle Workman, which features such James Brown and P-Funk veterans as Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, and Clyde Stubblefield. --Paul Gaita

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love you people
Everyone thinks they are so insanely clever with their cliche, pun-filled 1 star reviews. A few of most cunning are, "Yes it is Superbad, Superbad movie", "Super bad, unless you're a teenage boy", "Super-Vulgar and Boring", "The movie lives up to it's title!", "Lives down to its title, in a Superbad way!", "super-unwatchable", "This Movie is SO Vile, Studios originally thought of titling it "Supers*itty," "Supersuckage," and even "Superliberalism!!!!!!!".

Seriously?

Anyways, this movie is not meant to be an exact representation of the male teens current state. Most true comedy is overly exaggerated to extreme degrees. Anyone who cannot understand this basic fundamental of comedy shouldn't watch it.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - The Sad State of the American Teen Comedy
This isn't the worst comedy I've ever seen. That would still be TOMCATS. And for all of you morons who thought SUPERBAD was a really funny movie...there's another classic for you to check out. I'm sure you'll be thoroughly entertained.

Wow, this was bad. Unlikable and undefined characters. Endless meandering in place of story. If watching the actual movie isn't embarrassing enough for you, check out the "table reading" extra where the actors do a read-thru of the script. Ugh. Just painful. I'm absolutely sure that the actors had more fun reading that script than any paying person in the theatre (at least they were getting paid to go with it).

The cop characters? Not only do these characters not exist in any form of reality, they don't even exist in any movie ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Super Good
This is a wonderfully funny flick! My Godchild kept insisting that I watch it. I finally gave in and watched it, and now I'm hooked!!! Without giving anything away, just know that you will walk away a fan of this movie, as well. I promise ya! Check it out and enjoy! You'll then end up like I was - on Amazon ordering your very own copy!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Superbad umd movie
The movie was great but i expected it to come in a normal umd (Universal media disc) case but instead it came in a carboard sleeve. No scratches on the disc so it was o.k.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Aptly named
The Good: Not much. The one small glimmer of light in this otherwise black hole of a movie is Michael Cera (Evan). The guy's just likable in a sweet, dorky way. While there are some chuckles in the film, they are far overshadowed by the absolute cringe-worthy language and the absolute annoyance of Jonah Hill.

The Bad: Where to start? A young boy obsessed with drawing male genitalia ... what does that have to do with ANYTHING? I think it was supposed to be funny but it wasn't. And it was kind of like one of those trademark Family Guy moments where they intentionally overdue something inane ... except I don't think it was intentional here. The language in this movie is abominable. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a total prude but the f-bomb is used in this movie like I use the article ... Read More
