I purchased my Zippi desk fan over two years ago when I was checking out at a local chain store and remembered at the last minute that I needed a small desk fan. The fan was inexpensive, so I expected that it wouldn't be very powerful and that it wouldn't last long. Fortunately, I was wrong on both counts. I usually have my Zippi beside my bed for nighttime use, although I've started using it in my home office as well. It works well for either location.

What makes the Zippi different are its fabric blades, which give off a nice breeze while also being totally safe. If your fingers come into contact with the blades, there's no problem - I even sometimes touch the blades to make them sound like a plane taking off. Ok, I'm odd that way. Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - AVOID VORNADO LIKE YOU WOULD THE PLAGUE

I'm posting this on all Vornado listings on Amazon, as all potential purchasers need to be aware of the shortcomings of Vornado's warranty policy.

I purchased two fans from Vornado direct. Both were larger, more expensive units (280 & 285) that had either ten year or lifetime warranties.

One year after the purchase, the 285 began to vibrate upon start-up. The fan blades would barely revolve, and the fan emitted a loud rattling sound.

I called Vornado's Customer Service and spoke to a Paula. Upon describing the problem, she stated the motor was bad and e-mailed an RMA. However, she told me I would be required to pay for the return shipping.

I received this very quickly from the seller and it arrived in perfect condition. However, after I used it for only two nights in a row, the motor burnt out and it stopped working... Very nice while it worked, but I can't recommmend it.

After 1 week of use, this fan started making a high-pitched noise and then stopped working altogether after one more day. I would NOT recommend this fan to anyone. Even when it did work, the air output was minimial at best.
