Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
As the weather turns colder, Audrey and Richard's relationship begins to warm up in these episodes from the second season of To the Manor Born. As the displaced lady of Grantleigh Manor, Audrey Forbes-Hamilton (Penelope Keith) embodies the British upper-class sense of social propriety with remarks such as, "If somebody's died and you haven't read about it, it can be very embarrassing when you meet them at a party the following week." Peter Bowles plays up Richard's well-meaning haplessness as an estate manager, giving him plenty of opportunity to turn to Audrey for advice.

In episode 11, Audrey invites an old school chum to stay, hoping to cheer "Podge" up after her divorce. But the formerly pudgy Podge has become skinny, beautiful Diana, and when she goes hunting with Richard it's not the fox she's after. Audrey's jealousy results in some hilariously awkward early morning encounters for Richard. He and Audrey continue to disagree about the estate's management in episode 12: Richard wants to tear up the hedgerows to create larger fields, a move Audrey vehemently opposes. When she comes to his office to protest, he asks if she has an appointment, to which she snaps back, "Yes, and if this takes too long I shall be late for it!" But circumstances bring about a change of heart for both of them, leading to comical deceptions in the tape's final episode. Audrey prolongs her recuperation from a bad back when Richard starts bringing her flowers and chocolate; Richard boasts to Audrey of his skiing ability but is later caught snowplowing down a nearby hill while tied to a tractor. Once again, Bowles and Keith display the perfect combination of wit and timing that has earned this series legions of fans on both sides of the Atlantic. --Larisa Lomacky Moore

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Greatest British Sit-Com Ever
To The Manor Born is the finest comedy ever produced by the BBC. In this Volume Audrey is at her upper crust best. Oh how I wish that all the episodes were available on video. Grantleigh Manor with Richard DeVere and Audrey fforbes-Hamilton are the tops when it comes to comedy with that distintive British flavor. If you have not bought it yet, buy now.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Jealousy rears its high-classed head.
Audrey entreats Richard's help in hosting an old school chum--until she discovers that the old chum duckling has become a swan. She then exagerates her friends faults in her maneuvers to keep Richard and Diana [formerly "Hodge"] Podge out of the same stream. This segment reveals Audrey's growing attachment to Richard, but also reveals a jealous, self-centered crack in Audrey's upper crust.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - To The Manor Born is still the BEST of British Comedy
Even after years of collecting a wide array of British comedy videos, To The Manor Born is still my favourite. Penelope Keith is a most accomplished actress and her role as Audrey fforbes-Hamilton is by far her best. There are three episodes on this tape. Starting with "Podge Hodge" and "Save the Hedgerows", the final episode - "The NHS" is one of my favourites in the series. I highly recommend this video (as well as the other three currently available) and PRAY that the BBC releases the final series for us to collect ALL of the wonderful episodes.

For those interested, there is a website called the "To The Manor Born International Appreciation Society" in which more information can be gathered about this WONDERFUL British Comedy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best comedy series on either side of the Atlantic Ocean

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Still my favourite British Comedy of all time!
While this is the most recent of released videos, There are a total of 21 episodes of To The Manor Born. This volume represents episodes # 11, 12, and 13. The episodes are: The Spare Room, New Years Honours List, and The Skiing Holiday.

Volumes 3 and 4 comprise the second season of three total. With any luck the BBC will introduce the final 7 episodes sometime soon.
